When it was offered a the Wiener Museum auction in 2013. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/bw13 I spent quite a bit of time inspecting it. At that time I was impressed with the unmolested overall condition, it had experienced a quick respray of almost the correct colors and the interior floor mat was almost nonexistent, but the overall condition is what really impressed me. I found no rust through or weak sections which is a real plus with a monocoque designed vehicle. What really caught my attention was the originality of this car, almost every component was factory installed, everything was in place. I made a comment to another person who was looking at the car that of all the Messerschmitt\u2019s that were being offered at that auction (maybe 20) this would be the car I would want to take home. I did not bid on the car because I already own two KR\u2019s, but the consigner of this BAT auction made a wise choice and was the last one with his hand in the air when the hammer fell.. Now that the car has had a few mechanical items freshened up this car can be driven and enjoyed as is, or is a perfect candidate for a factory correct restoration. Normal service parts like rubber seals, bearings, the floor mat etc. are available from sources in Europe, there are also active clubs in Germany and England that cater to Messerschmitt owners. I hope this car finds a loving home, maybe I should reconsider and make room for a third KR in my collection. The engine as capable of running in both directions so the car could be driven backwards. To get reverse, the engine needs to be stopped and restarted to rotate in the opposite direction. That gives you all 4 gears in reverse, a scary proposition above 2nd gear. In some models the reverse rotation is triggered through the ignition switch. I\u2019ve seen a number with a toggle switch added to do it. If the ignition switch has been swapped for a generic unit, that might be the solution here.
