They handle like on rails. They don't have much power or acceleration. But once you're moving you won't need to brake for most corners. This is the earliest year and has the correct older diaphragm carburetor which can be a little more troublesome than the 1971-73 piston type. Either will work. The correct 1970 transmission does not have synchromesh in any gear - a little more challenging to drive. Sedans can be converted to have a tachometer from the coupe. Parts are available. But this early model would also have to have its camshaft changed out for a later one that accepts the tach drive gear. Pittsburgh to NYC then to Boston back to near NYC in Connecticut ....... Connecticut to Pittsburgh ....... Pittsburgh to Ft. Wayne then to Houston. 44,000 miles in 2 years on 1,000 gallons of 22 to 35 cent gas. So 44,000 miles in the thing cost me something around $700 or $350 per year. Six years ago I spent just over $800 for 4, 235/75/16 10 ply tires (twice) for my 5 cyl. diesel M-B Sprinter van. I drove that wonderful vehicle 195,000 miles over 9 years (average 22 MPG) on diesel fuel that cost an avg. of $3.00 ...... a total of $2,660. Purchase prize $44,000 including custom interior for my business and sold it for $15,000 - Let's see that's $29,000 depreciation, $1.600 for tires and $2,660 for fuel or $33,260 for 9 years use or $3,695 per year. OK - the N600 weighed about 1,400 lbs and the Sprinter about 6,600 lbs so the Honda cost me about 25 cents per pound per year and the Sprinter cost me about 56 cents per pound per year. What conclusion do I garner from that? I'm not sure but I loved them both for their time and purpose. I think my math was correct but if not .... so what ..... All FWD. Civic engine with fuel-stingy water cooled CVCC (combustion chamber) really DID get Detroit to notice (and grimace). Original Civics sold VERY well when they came out circa 1975 or so. Look at this thing, at how much glass there is relative to the tiny body. Get in and flog it around any twisty goat-track you can find, or sit in it at 70+ (which it will do all day) with a panoramic view of traffic all around you. I once had a guy call looking to sell one that came with an interesting story. Supposedly, a Honda dealer bought it and was planning to have a company that specializes in unusual aquariums turn it into one for the dealer\u2019s showroom. And before you all skewer me, know that I got my drivers license in Japan with a N360 Honda. It was the ONLY 4-stroke K car. Others (Mazda Carol, Subaru 360, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi and Suzuki Fronte 360s were all two-strokes). Came out about the same time as Subaru's (Fuji Heavy Industry's) bigger, time-honored original FWD boxer (4-cylinder I think). Those FWDs were game changers. Detroit only had one full sized FWD in late 60's...along with Saab's much smaller 3-cylinder two-strokes and 4-cylinder four-strokes (i.e, GT750 and 92/96). Anyway, a true engineering marvel which Honda (to this day) is famous for building. We enjoy Honda Super Cub, CL77s, CL350, CB750K1, CB550, CBX and -- yes -- late model V6 Accord. I bought mine in May of 73 from Jim Allen Olds/Honda in Dallas Texas, their last shipment of AN 600\u2019s. So the double nickel was not far off. My best friend moved to Houston, I visited many times and well remember the bumper to bumper traffic on 610 most of the time. Very little 70+ MPH speeds, more like 35-40.\r\n\r\nI still own mine, completely wore it out by 70,000 miles. A friend had one and it needed two cranks in 30K miles.
