They certainly weren't the most practical but certainly stylish. Personally I preferred the more sedate '73 version but do appreciate the design direction and cajones it took Buick to go with it.\r\n\r\nBut time certainly has a way of clouding the memory. We've been so accustomed to including \"luxury features\" today in even the most basic transportation. Things we take for granted like P/W, PDL, Tilt Steering Wheel, AM/FM stereo, etc. We forget how \"accessories\" like these weren't included in high end cars like Rivieras, LeSabres and many other prestigious cars. Most models didn't offer leather seating even as option!\r\n\r\nThe one thing that still stands out for me was the problematic redesigned one year only (1971) flow-thru ventilation system. The system routed the exhaust air flow through the trunklid instead of the inside door openings. These are visible as louvers on both sides of the trunk (most models only had one set located in the center). As many may recall GM suffered numerous complaints and/or warranty claims due to water leakage into the trunk. Love the fact that this one has the dealer window sticker showing it\u2019s definitely a real GS, so many fakes so much chatter about the GSs. The funny thing is the GS was more of a handling package than engine performance although in 71\u2019 the GS had 330 HP vs 315HP in the stock Rivs and the Stage 1 I don\u2019t believe was a designation in 71\u2019 I prefer the bucket/console look, I\u2019ve had both and converted one using two cars but this car looks pretty original, could use a bit of realignment of the bumpers front and rear but great that it seems pretty rust free, a few odd blems on the right lower fender but over all a real survivor awaiting the next lovers personal touch. Like others have mentioned, I street raced many a gm muscle car with this\u2026and handily beat them with the low end torque ( sorry mom! ). She kept it in a the garage but the rust monster ate it due to the salted midwestern roads\ud83d\ude22.
