The Corvette Stingray got special dispensation because it was so cool (the coolest, really) even though it was perfectly obvious where the headlights were even when \u201chiding\u201d.\r\nThe only thing cooler than hideaway headlights was a custom metalflake paint job. The trifecta was hideaway headlights, custom metalflake paint AND racing stripes. Was this too much to ask for? It seemed that every month Hot Rod Magazine had pages and pages of such cars. Oh cruel misery, here I was fated to suffer with parents who drove a sand tan slant-six Dodge Coronet, proclaimed that fancy hubcaps were for idiots because you couldn\u2019t see them from inside the car anyway, and most distressing of all: flatly refused to let me buy a mini-bike. \r\nNow, 50+ years later and I\u2019m still turned on by really good hideaway headlights, metalflake paint, and racing stripes. You had to be uber careful when applying the brakes because it took next to nothing to lock them up at the slightest provocation. I replaced everything, including the booster, master cylinder, installed a shorter bar that pushes the brake piston, but nothing worked. Even doing some research on the net, most who had the same problem never found a very good solution. So I'm glad to see the brake system on this car upgraded. I wonder if anyone else with a '68 Galaxie ever experienced this issue. It didn't seem to affect '67s or '69s much, if at all. Weird. \r\n\r\nAnyway, I love this body style and would be proud to drive this car everywhere. They always end up selling their albatross cars to some overseas bidder, just as they supposedly did for the galaxie they did before this one. Nobody in the US would pay this price for a galaxie because there are better cars that you can get for the money. Overall, the \"value\" is not good, much less \"great\".
