I have had one apart and know the gearbox pretty well. The guys at EAG have the ability to do it and have done it with a cable operated reverser mechanism and some other changes on a different application of the same box. When I discussed it with them in 2021, it would have been $35-40K and would have required several people interested in doing it at the same time to warrant their time to develop it and they were slammed with other projects so it wouldn't have happened anytime soon. At the time there also wasn't enough of a price spread between a V12VS SS3 and a 7MT car to justify it (only about $40K). In addition to the gearbox and linkage changes, there is coding of many modules including the ECUs. The only complexity is the hydraulic shift actuator/reverser assembly, valve body, fluid pump, and control unit. While the box is from Graziano, the associated parts are from Magneti Marelli. They are very easy to understand and service if you know what you are doing. Rebuilds of the shift actuator and solenoid block are common place as are the pumps. There is nothing mysterious about it and very similar systems (sans reverser) are used on Ferrari, Lambo, and others. The best guys for actuator rebuilding if needed are in the NY and the UK. It is fast and cheap compared to what the cost of the new unit is ($1,000-1,500). \n\nWith regular maintenance of the hydraulic system (flushing it every few years), it is not likely there will be a problem. \n\nAs to how they drive, I would say fantastic. If you understand that this is an automated sequential gearbox and treat it like what it is...a paddle operated manual, I prefer it to the 7MT version any day of the week. If you drive in auto mode, it will suck. If you are just driving around town and sift without adjusting throttle input, it will suck and you will do the \"bobbly head\". \n\nTo drive this car properly, select Sport and Manual (never, ever, ever select auto as it is useless). Every time you upshift with a paddle, lift off the throttle slightly, and get right back on the throttle as soon as the shift is completed. Just like you would do with a manual. It will be seamless and a joy. If you are driving full throttle or close to it, there is no need to lift and you will not do the \"bobble head\". Nothing special is required on the downshift. \n\nI think the complaints of drivability come from lack of experience. I got my first automated manual in a 1997 Ferrari 355 F1 circa 1999 and haven't looked back since. My DSG and DCT gearbox cars shift faster and with less \"drama\" but the automated sequential like this are WAY more fun to drive and have great character to boot. \n\nWhoever gets this car will love it. I'm in Texas, so I've encountered quite a few of EAG's cars including a manual converted 430 Scud owned by a friend. \r\n\r\nOutside of the transmission, it does still seem quite the task when you include sourcing or tuning the ECU, modules, pedal box changes, the shifter, cables, entire middle console to fit the shifter, waterfall and various other pieces to be acquired. Even used, one would still be looking at $10 -15k or so. With the price delta of SS3 to 7MT, it might be something owners down the line could consider but there's so few of these comparatively that I agree it's not worth it. \r\n\r\nThe waterfall in these is similar to the waterfall in '11 V12V and I do prefer the physical touch surfaces to the later more stylish ones. \r\n\r\nEither way, whoever wins is getting a heck of a vehicle here. This is one of the most reliable V12 engines that you can buy stuffed in the smallest package...I mean it's only 14' long. For comparison, that's 6\" shorter than an BMW F87 M2 which was already a small car! \r\n\r\nAlso, anyone that has ever taken apart this generation of Aston has found that they are built very well but also simple and straightforward. The only service challenges I have found are those caused by clearance issues from stuffing such a big engine in a small package but aside from that, easy and simple. Dual ECUs can be complex but they aren't likely to go wrong and most every service procedure including the gearbox actuator can be completed with the Aston software on a Matco shop tablet or a Thinkdiag USB dongle and the Aston software in a home shop environment. Those are around $130 and $50 for the software. \r\n\r\nWhoever buys this should flush the hydraulic circuit for the Sportshift ASAP. It's easy and cheap. It is not an item on any Aston service list I have seen but will help prevent any future hydraulic issues. Oh, and DRVIE THE CAR! The more these are driven, the less issues they have. This 17K mile car is probably going to be more reliable than a 5K garage queen from the same year. \r\n\r\n@NA1Driver Yup, while entirely possible and not that complex, it would be fantastically expensive and a waste of time.
