I have owned a base 2011 XJ for nearly 5 years and put over 35,000 miles on it. The base car is fast, comfortable and very stylish, with a gorgeous interior. It has been a great vehicle that I hope to keep for a long time. Some comments:\r\n\r\nSince the mechanicals are heavily based on the tried and true X350, the vehicles are generally reliable as the chassis and power-train have been in production for some time. The only significant reliability issue with the engine is the water pump/crossover pipe which seems to fail before 50,000 miles. There are new designs for both parts so hopefully the replacements will be more long lasting. \r\n\r\nSome people knock the styling, but to my eyes this model is much nicer looking than it\u2019s German competition as well as the previous X350 models. The only current sedan that is as pretty as the current XJ is the new Alfa Giulia.\r\n\r\nWhen these were new, they were panned for a slow infotainment system. 10 years later, and it is still slow. One trick to speed it up is to turn off animations for the display, but at least you can stream music effortlessly through Bluetooth.\r\n \r\nThe lovely interior in somewhat fragile, and not conducive to having kids in the car. When I was shopping, many XJs suffered from scratched dashes, cracked speaker covers or scuffed and torn vinyl and plastic interior trim. \r\n\r\nThese cars do suffer from sticky buttons. This is more true for those that are left outside in the sun. Supposedly the fix is to wipe the buttons down with Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. \r\n\r\nGLWTS. These XJ SS are a LOT of car for the money. All SS were special order only cars and with a sticker of $111k, that was nearly $30k over the price of a XJ Supercharged. There were a ton of little bespoke changes, not to mention the extra 40hp. \r\n\r\nI absolutely love this Jag, and SS aren't falling from the trees. Ride is quiet, interior design is superb, exterior is elegant, power is more than enough for all but stop light races with GT2 and it has every conceiveable option a more modern car has. Not to mention an incredible stereo - better than any of the Germans. AC seats, massage, adaptive cruise, gorgeous backlit vents, inset dash, a full leather headliner, privacy screens...on and on. One of the most under the radar luxury cars made. I would rather have this an Arnage any day, and that's not a slight to the Arnage either. This car too has the rear picninc tables and TVs which some of the few options available (cruise and heated windshield the others)\r\n\r\nAlso to your note - there are no stickies in this car, no cracked dash, no tears etc. \r\n\r\n@Eeter typical Carfax errors. Mine is a 2014 XJ L and merely the 470hp Supercharged offering. I\u2019ve pondered taking it drag racing as I\u2019m confident it would slide into the mid-high 12\u2019s. It\u2019s quick. On the highway it\u2019s fast and serene. The exhaust note is splendid. The little checkered flag button on my console makes the gauges an angry red (I don\u2019t care for that) but gives the suspension an incredibly athletic ability, helped by the low 4200lb curb weight. A 7-Series is a wallowing bus in comparison. An S-Class a sleepy lounge. This is the driver\u2019s choice among big sedans. \n\nThe first time I heard the Arnage/XJ comparison, I scoffed. Then I realized it\u2019s hard to find an Arnage with 4 heated/cooled/massaging/reclining seats. The leather headliner is at once understated and decadent. It\u2019s a grand grocery getter with a huge trunk. It\u2019s a wonderful business car; substantial, stately, and unique. A supreme touring car. And to my eye, timeless styling thanks to consistency from Jaguar and rarity on the road. \n\nDownsides? Slowish technology if you care. Rearward vision is challenging, but mirrors and camera help. Should be capable of luridly improper burnouts but I\u2019ve never quite defeated the inherent nannies. Once the waterpump has been updated, rock solid dependable. Oh, excited Siberian husky claws might mar the leather, but a little care and you\u2019ll never know. A 2007 XK and a 2011 XJ. The XJ is a beautiful automobile and the nicest car I have ever owned. My XJ has only 385 H.P. but I will tell you, it is fast and it handles amazingly well. These cars have an aluminum frame which makes them light and helps contribute to their quickness. It is a very comfortable car to sit in and drive on road trips. The only issues I have had with it was a plastic part that the rad hose connects to, broke while I was out on the freeway.My mechanic said that this same type of part is used on most high end cars, it is not limited to Jaguars. The Sirius/XM radio also cuts in and out when I travel down streets with large old trees. Not sure if that is an issue with my vehicle or one that others also have. Other than that, I have had zero issues with this car and I have owned it for 5 years now. And as to the previous post, yes, this is the same car that they chauffeur the British Prime Minister in.
