It was my mom\u2019s daily driver although it might have been just a CS. Having spent 6 years being ferried around in one of these, I vividly remember those seats with the \u201cElmo Leather\u201d tag, the dashboard, and the rear center console cup holder. The one other thing I remember is that every time we shut off either of her Saabs, it smelled like rotten eggs. My mom brought this up to the dealer, Pray Saab of Greenwich, multiple times but they said it was normal. I later read, I think on here, that it could have been a bad catalytic converter. It was gross but as an elementary schooler, I thought it was funny the car farted. As an adult, I might still find it funny unless I was the one who was paying for it.\n\nI used to go months, if not years, without seeing one of these but there are 4-5 that regularly appear near a gas station about a mile from the house I moved into two and a half years ago. There\u2019s also a white one in town, likely a one owner, with a stick. Interesting fact about the aforementioned gas station - the head mechanic/owner has two Peugeots - a 405 Sedan and a 505 Wagon.\n\nAs for this one, it looks like it\u2019s in remarkable condition, especially considering it\u2019s spent its life in the Northeast. Whenever I see one (except the white one in my town), it tends to have one or more of the following problems: rust, failed paint, a ruined interior, and/or faded emblems. I\u2019ve heard they\u2019re difficult to keep going and that parts are getting harder to find but I could be wrong. \n\nOne other vivid childhood memory: on a family vacation, we rode on a Saab plane. My parents asked the pilot if I could look at the cockpit because \u201cmy son loves cars, we have a Saab at home, and he\u2019d find it cool to see the similarities between the cockpit and the car\u201d and he happily obliged. (LPT) delivering 185hp. The LPT in the CS is evidenced by lack of a Turbo! guage. \r\n2) The Direct Ignition Cassette (DIC) is a T7 Trionic DIC meant for more recent Saabs. The DIC is easily identified by the color: black for T7, red for T5. The OEM DIC is the red T5. As noted in another comment the T7 DIC will work just fine. The T7 DIC has some sensors used by the Trionic system to better manage the engine. I should point out a known working DIC should be carried in the car. DIC can & do fail without warning, as I found in two separate incidents. Changing out a dead DIC is a 15 minute job, the tools needed are in the car's toolkit, the Torx head screwdiriver and swapped around flat blade to pop the electrical connector open. My fingers are no longer strong enough to open the DIC electrical connector.\r\n\r\nI had a '96 9000 Super CS with automatic transmission that died in a sideswipe by a pick-up driven by a 16yo going to b-ball practice. That Super CS had 428k miles and was running well. In 2011 it was murdered by a deer (hate those things). was my favorite car ever. recently found a 1998 9000 CSE on SAABnet and I'm back in the driver's seat again!! Got it when first kid was born. Felt like a Sherman tank of protection when driving in the Bay Area and no movement in high winds on the bridges. The hatch tonneau cover was a great changing table and the back is huge for strollers and other baby gear (or golf clubs...). Great cars for tall people and even with FWD-only handled great in the snow. When the water pump went out at about 120K miles I freaked out and got the ubiquitous minivan and sold it to a family who wanted something safe and steady for their teen to drive his sibs. Post-MV, I seriously considered a 9-5 wagon but instead bought the VW Passat VR6 4motion wagon.
