There are faster cars, but I can guarantee there aren't any street legal production fixed roof cars that are more engaging to drive.\r\n\r\nThose Reverie carbon fiber pieces are the real deal - we have the same ones on our Exige and they are extremely light (real CF, not fiberglass with a top layer of CF) and amazingly strong. Even a parking stop will not damage them. They're also very functional with actual wind tunnel testing showing the downforce levels, and loads of track data backing that up as well. (FWIW, removing the wing is worth about 12 mph of top speed).\r\n\r\nValues have been rising for the past 4-5 years as people are realizing that no one will be able to produce a street legal vehicle like this ever again. \r\n\r\nIf you want to turn this into a targa top, just pick up an Elise soft top and drill 2 holes - that is all that is required.\r\n\r\nWe have 85,000 miles on ours and it has needed NOTHING other than consumables and ours has a LOT of time above 8000rpms. The drivetrain was designed by Toyota for a 3500 pound car and, in a 2000 pound car, it simply laughs at whatever you can throw at it. \r\n\r\nTires are considerably cheaper for these than on other cars due to the light weight and relatively small tires. I'm on RE71s right now and the set was less than $700. Rears last ~5,000 - 10,000 miles, fronts about twice that. Owner followed a good upgrade path focusing on grip, aero, reliability, and braking performance... all things that should be done before power is added. If next owner is ready for power, it's easy to get another 40+ reliable hp and more low end torque. It's also a fantastic platform to become a better driver because there's so much sensation involved in every input; the antithesis to the modern sports car formula. There really aren't any cars until twice this price that deliver this combination of driver engagement, visceral connection, respectable performance, and emotion. Whoever buys this, also be ready for a bit of positive attention. Something about a bright red Lotus is exciting and unusual but approachable and widely admired. If you go check out the 1965 Elan auction, you'll see the posters discussing common engine (water pump relocation/retrofits) and suspension (CV for doughnuts) mods that INCREASE the value of the car due to making it more drivable.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, a knowledgeable Lotus buyer will look at this list of mods and quickly determine that they are (1) really expensive; and (2) really good at helping an already quick car be even quicker. \r\n\r\nAs noted before, the Reverie pieces are both expensive (true carbon fiber always is) and extremely functional in both protecting the vehicle (we had the Reverie on the Elise we had prior to our Exige and probably scraped it 200 times without issue) and creating significant downforce. \r\n\r\nThe shifter mods add a lot of crispness to a shifter which is already intuitive, but had a bit too much play from the factory. \r\n\r\nThe brake mods not only provide fade resistance at the track, but they also reduce the \"sponginess\" that is evident under hard braking on a stock Elise/Exige. Lotus tuned the ABS system to allow a LOT of pressure before the nannies kick in and, as a result, the standard lines expand a bit which can feel disconcerting to the driver. Stainless lines fix that. \r\n\r\nThe seat and harnesses mean you won't spend a grand having it done yourself. You'll average 30mpg at 80mph, but the range will be just about 300 miles and, since there are stretches without gas stations, you're going to want to stop every 200 miles or so. I've read that people add a supercharger to NA cars and then find they are not California compliant. \n\nIn the end, looks like less than 800 factory supercharged Exiges made it to USA, partly thanks to the global financial crisis' effect on discretionary incomes. It had 12,000 miles on it when the motor gave way as well as the super charger. The trans needed a refresh as well. 40k miles on a stock motor is a lot if this car was on the track much IMO. It's hard to put a price on the extra goodies on this thing as they are like most aftermarket parts--only worth it if the buyer was going to do it anyways!
