From that point they nosedived to well under $100k. Now that the collector car market and stock market have heated up and in many people's opinions we have peaked or close to peaked. The Dino is currently trading well below its peak from the 80's and well above its bottom of the 90's. Therefore, to say that the Dino is cheap is not necessarily true when you look at the past 30 years.You can't just look at the past 10years and say wether a car is priced cheap or expensive. A beautiful shape and actually quite reliable. This car appears to be in very nice condition. I also did a bare metal repaint on my car to take care of some nicks and some rust in the rear rockers. During my time of ownership I also read comments about the Dino not really being a \u2018true\u2019 Ferrari, but it never really bothered me that the engine was a V-6 sourced from Fiat. Being of moderate means, it was a plus to me for upkeep purposes (cost and maintenance). And yes, period photos show the cars being built on the same assembly lines as other Ferrari\u2019s. Engine performance could have been better, but handling was my preference, and it had that in spades. Things to consider on used Dino\u2019s are transaxles that like to jump out of second gear and the previously mentioned rust. And like this Dino, mine also started out in maroon, but had a color-change to red prior to my ownership. When I did the repaint, I just kept the red. Also look for molded plastic in the front and rear trunks that are in good shape (this one has nice plastic in the front, can\u2019t see the rear). I always got a kick out of the sun visors that rolled up into the windshield header, just like window blinds. I find it perfectly OK on long journeys, where it encourages you to take the longest, windingest route you can find to your destination. The engine is a joyous thing and really makes these cars\u2026 but you do have to remember that they\u2019re approaching 50 years old now and you will find the performance, grip, braking etc thoroughly outclassed by a new Hyundai so don\u2019t go trying to race anything. Actually I would say it epitomises the \u201cbetter to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow\u201d school of thought\u2026\r\n\r\nValues are the perennial question but when you\u2019re in it you don\u2019t really think about that too much. There is something unpretentious about it and I\u2019ve always felt like people appreciate seeing it when I turn up with it at shopping mall carparks, music festivals or small town motels. One was fly yellow and the other, a deep metallic blue with tan hides. Exquisite in every way, both brand new and they would cruise through the circular driveway that bisected the apartment complex, simultaneously. The residents would all come out from there apartments to both see and, more importantly hear, these two, as if on parade. the owner of the blue model was my next door neighbor and took me on a drive through Provo Canyon. Needless to say, I was hooked for life and still ogle the Dino 246 at every opportunity. That said, I own a Superformance Mk III Cobra replica and the question is always, \"Is it real...?\". To which I respond no, it is a replica, but faithful to the original in every respect, right down to the thrill I get from looking at and driving it. What matters is just those emotions. I am sure many who could buy a 308/328 now will regret it in the future whether these cars are worth $200k years from now or $500k plus like the Dinos......If a 328 is worth $500k in the future, it might be that a Dino is worth $2 million or more but it would be wrong to assume that a 328 could never be worth $500k. I know that in the past cynical attitudes from know it all types criticized the Dino saying it would never be a real Ferrari, would never be worth much and they were wrong. So I have quite a bit of time with these cars, and I have had a fair bit of time with a lot of its contemporary rivals. Everything from 300SL Gullwings, to 507's, 308's, 911's, even a 275GTB4. What I will tell you about the Dino is they really are a great driving car, they feel very pure they make fantastic noises, and are very solid feeling and actually quite robust mechanically, and let us not forget they are drop dead gorgeous, and you feel like Steve McQueen driving them. Both of these Dino's are owned by very long term owners ( over 30 years for both of them ) and they drove these cars, maybe not everyday, but drove the crap out of them, and they did not seem to be anymore of a maintenance issue than most other cars of that era. One of the owners even used to take it to race track and take it flat out on the banked track, And they seem much less high strung, and therefore more fun to drive than its big brother 275GTB4. And like was said earlier, the Dino is on, literately everybody's list as iconic design.
