And the dammned engine was installed bacwards..ie the aux drives and belts up agains the firewall and the clutch at the front behind the radiator. The clutch never failed but the altenator in the hottest part of the engine bay was a 15k mile part at best and took two hours to r and r.\r\nBut i loved the thing. Actually almost as quick as the sunbeam tiger i sold ( due to too many tickets) to buy this. Kept one year sold to a french professor at CSULB for a profit. He drove it two miles and was crying that he had to have it. I got a fair price. And later fixed everything on it for him. If I was examining this car, there are only two areas that the photos make me wonder about. First, the front lower corners of the front doors, where the fender anchors are. The photos show possible evidence of minor damage or repair. The other is the side chassis shot that shows the horizontally-mounted shock. There looks to be some seam rust, and is that a line of welding towards the right side of the photo?\n\nI hope the seller does not take these minor comments as criticism. This is a later car where they switched from DOT3 to the post '69 DS's LHM green fluid = Liquid Minerale Hydraulic - which eliminates all the DOT 3 corrosion problems - no more cylinder sleeving due to rust pits! And you can run DEX III in it as I do in my '67 Chapron convertible I built from a total midwest rustbucket 25 yrs ago using a '71 LHM chassis and I'd still drive it anywhere. The green fluid in the brakes does not have to be the expensive LHM - any good Milspec 5606 A or B fluid works fine, from Kendall's Hyken Glacial Blue (it IS blue) used for lift booms servicing powerlines, to the least expensive DEX III work fine. But NEVER put DOT 3 in a Duck with the later seals as they're incompatible! DOT 3 systems use ethylene propylene seals, where LHM systems use nitrile rubber. A 3500 mile, 3 week road trip of sightseeing, camping, and keeping 26 Ducks and their passengers alive and well! We crashed the party with my then freshly roadable '67 Citroen DS21 Chapron convertible with trunkful of tools & became the unofficial breakdown car. Raid started in Vancouver, so we drove the D from Detroit across I-90 (I think) across Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, etc. At the start was a 2CV driven by a couple in the 70s, starting in NY I think, after a marathon rebuild of the car by their kids, so the parents could make the trip! They made the start, and the finish, along with all the rest of us. \nDuring those 3500 miles, we broke 5 windshields (replaced easily anywhere we went with flat glass), fixed stuff in campgrounds, and somewhere in Wash State's middle of nowhere, Karl and I - being the last ones out of the campground that morning, came across a Duck flopped on its side, German couple totally dismayed as the small-town cops had never sent a wrecker to help them, and we were the last of the group thru the one gas station widespot in this road. Their gear was scattered all over the steep shoulder. They'd accidentally caught the sharp rightside edge of the new asphalt on the deep shoulder with a wheel, went into a wild shimmy on overcorrecting, and flipped - which is pretty hard to do in a Tinsnail. The entire body shell was bent into a parallelogram - windshield shattered, front wheels splayed out with bent tierods, and buckled fenders & quarters. Fortunately the couple was unhurt. \nI got a wrecker to right the car, then we swapped the rear glass to the front with Duck tape, I got the wheels parallel, reloaded the car & drove 2 hrs in the dark to the campground with the car under its own power & us as backup. \nDawns the morning & the group swarmed the car, stripped its panels, someone bought a bottle jack, 2x4, saw, & jacked the body shell back square, we re-straightened the steering, hammered out dents & got glass made. In 4 hrs the car looked great with new paint, so on we went & finished the run by going down Lombard street in SF before the celebration dinner - even had several Aussies fly in at the start to join us - in rented Crown Vics - we razzed them no end - no Hertz 2CVs available. He was a retired airline captain and was able to get a red eye flight arriving early in Orlando. Picked him up at the airport, set him up in this 2CV and off he went. I believe it took him almost 7 days of easy driving to reach Oregon. The only issue he experienced was the steering wheel that became loose at some point. The main screw had not been properly tighten.\nSo taking a cross country trip in a 2CV is absolutely something that can be done.
