Recent maintenance will allow you to drive the car while you sort out the needs. Quick notes, the interior is out of a later car, it has the tropic air system, which if you actually want to try and make the AC work is the best system, and the aftermarket exhaust appears to be the magnaflow catalytic converter with the flex downpipes which make removing the exhaust a breeze compared to the rigid profanity inducing original one. \r\n\r\nThey're great cars. I haven't seen the car in person since I sold it in the late 90s, but I do know the history of the car up to the point that I let it go and arranged all of work that went in it during the article series. This was an accident and rust free Los Angeles car at that time and no expense was spared on the updates and modifications listed in the articles. All of the work was performed either by Rex Chalmers at Omega Motorsports in Culver City, Stewart Sandeman of Alfa Performance Connection in Laguna Hills, and Stuart at Sperry Valve Works in Signal Hill. At the time the article series ended the car was fully sorted and had all of the most common performance and reliability modifications done that were popular at that time, short of swapping the 2.5 engine for a 3.0. I regretted selling the car almost immediately, and did not replace it with another GTV6 until 2018. This car is worth saving; it has an interesting history and was well known during those years. I have a lot of cars and a lot of projects and finally came to the senses that I need to pass along the ones I haven't gotten around to finishing. This car has seen 104 miles in the last 22 years. Yes, I dove into hard in 2018 and dumped a bunch of money into the mechanicals but it still has needs. \r\nThe only rust on the car is the rear hatch, zero anywhere else... Like Paul states below, it has been a California car since new and it has been inside during my ownership. The prior 9 years it sat outside in San Jose sun getting baked. The rear hatches on these will puddle water if parked at the right angle and I am certain that is how the hatch corrosion started. Currently it needs the cold start (7th injector) rebuilt as it runs super rich on startup. The other 6 injectors are new and I made the mistake of not getting the cold start injector rebuilt at the same time as the others. Quickie paint w/ body filler less than 4 grand. Quality rust repair and paint up to $10K. Good quality paint can be $700 a gallon. \r\n\r\nThe rear glass is easy to remove to fix the rust properly.\r\n\r\nI did the disassembly/reassembly work on my 83 and spent $8K. That included some metal work on the wheel arches, deleting the side markers, eliminating the rain gutter extension past the rear quarter glass and eliminating the plastic skirt and holes between the wheels. \r\n\r\nDepending on your location, there are small shops that do amazing work for reasonable prices.
