BMW put a couple different heads on these 2.0 L M10 motors over the years. The referenced 1969 M10 was non-original to the car, I've located the owner of the car it originally belonged to, so I'm giving him an opportunity on it. The motor ran good, in need of rebuild in my opinion because of the smoke it pushed out, guessing the valve seals were tired. The 1973 M10 motor in the car had been rebuilt and runs great.\r\n\r\nThe ignition fully works, the key intermittently sticks in the full off, so a bit of wiggle frees it. I've read there is a pin that can be repaired in the ignition, or removed, that will fully free it.\r\n\r\nI also have the 4 speed manual that originally belonged to the 1973 M10 motor if anyone is interested in a manual swap. That was my plan. What can also be added as a follow-on for the buyer is a set of parts I was sourcing for the manual swap, all the needed parts.\r\n\r\nThat is quite a fleet and sounds like tons of fun. It as a great car with two-tone black and maroon interior, dual solex carbs and maybe a tach... Anyway, fun interesting car that was reasonably fast and handled well. Very shortly thereafter, I was gong through the weekly ritual of searching the Recycler (printed predecessor to Craigslist), and I found an 1800 for a few hundred dollars out n the San Fernando Valley. It was in great shape, single carb version with a sunroof and freshly rebuilt motor. It would make a horrible clunking sound on acceleration, and would only occasionally go into reverse. I bought it for $100 - cheap even back then. After getting it home and going through the ususal post-purchase inspection laying on cardboard in my driveway, we figured out it had a broken motor mount which solved the clunk. A good tune up and the thing turned out to be a real screamer up Angeles Crest (maybe Mulholland too). Learned to park very carefully as it soon completely lost reverse. We were always surprised my single carb standard 1800 was so much quicker than my buddy's nicer 1800 TI. When I left the country to serve as a missionary in Central America, I sold the BMW for a small profit. Two years later, when I returned home (there was no email or texting to missionaries in Central America, and college dudes didn't typically write letters), my buddy was excited to report that his 1800 TI sprang to life once he figured out he had the distributor (timing) off by 180 degrees, and that once sorted, his TI would have blown my doors off...\r\n\r\nGreat cars - funny how what was once dorky is now desireable.
