I never understood that. From 1960 onward Hofmeister had a handful of draftsmen working on designs/specs he envisioned (like the kink) at the same time. It was a team effort. Bertone and Giugiaro were working away on the 3200cs while Rennen and Bertram led by Michelotti were working on the typ120, NKs and eventually the 1600/2002. The 3200cs and 2000c/cs evolved on paper around the same time, albeit with the latter entering production a few years after the aforementioned. If you look at the noted link previously, there is an early 60s sketch signed by Michelotti and one by Rennen. Bertram did finalize the 1600/2002. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group\u2019s present-day Design Director states [for the Neue Klasse in late 1959] an outside consultant from Italy, the legendary Giovanni Michelotti, did first sketches and then collaborated with Wilhelm Hofmeister, who influenced the kink in the rear quarter that is now a fixture in BMW\u2019s design vocabulary.\u201d Automotive author Lance Cole goes into detail in his book \u201cThe Classic Car Adventure: Driving Through History on the Road to Nostalgia\u201d. The rarity of the 2000CS is obvious given how few have appeared on BAT. This example is gorgeous. I am a fan of the Talbot (style?) wing mirrors. I have a few vintage BMW in my garage including 2000CS 1104436 which I acquired from Oldenzaal about one and a half years ago. Mine has Trap mirrors and rides on, later I think, FPS wheels. The Teutonic design elements combined with apparent Italian flavors and Art Deco influences make these quite special in my opinion. I hope this one gets all of the love it surely deserves and finds a new owner who appreciates how special it is.
