It was the fastest class of karts. I had a B-stock Rupp kart with Twin Mac engines. With the sprint karts, it was all about the torque out of the turns and since the straights were relatively short, the torque would allow you to pass. You had three heats or races and would have a low point system with your finish rank added together, would determine the winner. Say, if you had two first and a third, your 5 point score would make you the winner. One thing about the twin engine karts is that the torque would throw you back in the seat, something you did not experience as much with the single engines. The Enduro karts ran on tracks about 2.5 miles (like Indy Raceway Park, VIR, or Road Atlanta. But the sprint tracks were about a half mile with lots of action with hairpin turns. \r\nThis kart looks perfect and will give someone lots of thrills. You weigh the kart and driver after the race. If a skinny guy races in heavy, he bolted lead to the floor or would get disqualified. At the nationals we would get 500 karts. Set each carb has a needle that you can reach while underway. Typically the needle will bottom out a one and a half to 2 and a half turns. Take it out on the track and run it wide open and reach out and open one needle til the engine starts four cycling. The close it back a ch until it stops. Then you may want stop and try to make sure the needles are similar. If one is one and a half and the others are two and a half, then you may want to try them all at two. Then out on the track and repeat. They all don\u2019t have to be the same but close. Remember, the fuel has oil added so you must keep the mixture rich enough to lubricate, but lean enough not to four cycle. If you run too lean the engine may seize. Then you may need new rings and hone the cylinder. This is not a real big deal and will be easy once you get the hang of it. Some use a blend of alcohol and gas for fuel. In the old days we even used caster oil for lubricant. Now they have great synthetic oil. As far as youngsters go, mostly adults race a cart like this. A younger person would start out with a single engine cart. Indy Great Helio Castroneves got his start in karting. The West bend was the 820 at 135cc. It was the largest engine raced back then. C-Stock were stock engines out of the block (which we would blueprint to make sure every orifice was max) and the C-Open could be modified. After a race you could get a protest and the race officials would give you your engine back in a box in parts after they measured everything. It looks like these 820 West Bends have three Titleson carburetors with reed valves.
