The early ones had chrome bumpers with huge rubber over riders and twin SU carbs. The mid year version (this car) had the rubber bumpers with twin carbs and the third version had the rubber bumpers with that lousy single zenith/stromberg carb. The number built like this has to be pretty low and even fewer still exist.\n\nI would never modify this car. Although the paint is showing some age it is all reparable without a complete repaint if a good paint match can be made. as far as the comments about dropping a V8 into the engine bay, I can only say i have a 74 chrome bumper model in Teal Blue that has an injected Camaro V6 and five speed conversion that looks like it was built that way. It is a lighter engine, has lots of power an sounds great. That being said however, the original 1.8 has a lot of potential with a few mods and an overdrive. The only other things I would do is lower the car to the same height as the earlier version and put in a new set of seat covers.\n\nI have restored a number of these cars and currently own three; they are simple, reliable and comfortable even as a daily driver. I also have an 80 B roadster in this colour and agree that the later bumpers look good on Bs and wouldn't be tempted to retro fit chrome bumpers. \n\nThis car appeals on a number of levels and will make someone very happy for many years.
