Four rear, two front, and one served as the steering damper. We also had a new 1970 Eldorado 500 cubic inches with 400 horsepower. The GT was definitely much faster and quicker. Both cars where great snow plows! The only down side to the 1969 1970 Toronados was a cushy suspension. I got a new 1966 Toronado the day I got my first drivers license. Only the1966-68 had very stiff torsion bars These stiff bars make any 1969-1978 corner like a sports car. The good news is the torsion bars are interchangeable 1966-1978. I did this switch on a 1973 Indy 500 Pace Car I owned. What a difference in handling. Having owned a 67 Eldorado, I would say the Toro/Eldo FWD platform improved mechanically, particularly with simpler disc brakes and front wheel bearings starting in 1969. 67-8 disc brake components are very rare, and no longer available. Unfortunately, I prefer the earlier car's styling and interior. Around town expect 10-11 mpg; 14 highway with premium. She's not a cheap ride but experiencing 500 ft-lbs of torque getting on the freeway is memorable (you can visually see the gas gauge needle move toward empty). These engines typically have leaks at the exhaust manifold. The only way to fix it is to go with high performance metal gaskets. Other than that these engines and transmissions are near bullet-proof. GM did extensive testing on these prior to production. These cars are fantastic long distance cruisers (if you can afford the mpg). Wheels are difficult to balance because of the heavy \"turbine\" hubcaps. Regular tire valves are too short because of these hubcaps. Go with the longer metal truck tire valves. Interesting to see this one without the halo vinyl top. Was it removed with a repaint? Look for rust at door corners and lower edge of front fenders behind the wheels. This year model is unique in that it was the last iteration of the original design. Its design fits the era's changing definition of personal luxury vehicle.
