The preferred method is to convert to the later lambda controlled L-Jet system from the 528i which was designed so that it could work with a catalytic converter instead of the reactors. The conversion produces much cleaner exhaust emissions - reportedly better than the reactors even with no catalytic converter. Wouldn't pass a visual inspection, but would pass a sniffer (if applicable in your area). Being a non-overdrive car it does spin about 3500 RPM at 70+MPH or so but I\u2019ve put plenty of highway miles on it that way and it does not seem to bother the car or driver one bit. It shifts so nice as is, I could not bring myself to put in the five speed.
