This appraisal was done for TRACER ENTERPRISES \"FOSTER FARMS RACING TEAM\" that purchase the car from the original owner. I spoke with one of the mechanics at the racing team and he clearly verified the low mileage and said the car was barely driven during their ownership and kept in their warehouse for decades until it was sold to the last owners in 2013. I called the owners we purchase the car from last night and they verified that the carpet was not changed by them during their 12 years of ownership. I also asked them if they were sure the Studebaker factor repainted the car bronze and they reclarified that they weren't sure who painted it and what they were indicating is the color bronze was a preferred color choice in the Studebaker circle. I misunderstood that to mean it was painted by Studebaker. When I purchased the car the original hubcaps were painted black at some point but the paint was faded so I had them repainted to what they are today. After looking at Avanti's on BAT i now realize that this was not the original paint scheme. It appears the outer section and center had black rings painted as can be seen on prior BAT listings. \nI honestly believe the 5400 miles is accurate especially when you consider there is little to no wear and tear on the interior upholstery, no sagging on door hinges, no rock marks or pitting on front windshield, steering wheel looks like new, etc...\nThe motor mounts and bushings were replaced during the brake job I had performed. We noticed that the original bushing rubber was dry and the motor mounts had compressed over time so we felt it was appropriate to replace then while working on the brakes. The picture 176 showing the undercarriage being dirty with a film of oil can be attributed to a leaky power steering pump and hoses that we have now replaced. The Avanti has been sitting in my shop in the same place for over 3 weeks so I am including pictures of the concrete underneath the car to show there is little to no oil seepage at this time. I never power washed the underneath of the chassis since I purchase it and also verified the owner before me did not try and power wash it either in the 12 years they owned it. Makes since there would be some power steering residual film on the undercarriage from prior leaks and sitting for all these years. Not many cars that are 62 years old don't show some signs of oil film present on the undercarriage.\nRegarding the carpets being replaced- I will contact the mechanic at foster farms racing team and verify if they ever replace the carpet during their ownership and report back on this.\nIt has aways been my intent to be as honest and accurate with my representation of classic cars I sell. I have sold cars over the years on EBAY since it's inception and still maintain a 100% positive feedback. Please feel free to verity this on my feedback forum. \nI recently replaced the alternator as the regulator was not working properly. I tried to procure a replacement regulator from Studebaker West and Studebaker International but they no longer stock the regulator for the Avanti. I have over 50 classic cars in my Museum dating from 1920 to 2017. I have owned several hundred classic cars in my lifetime. Based on the testimonials from the two prior owners of the stated mileage I am going to go with their first hand knowledge having owned this car rather than believe it is something different based on a picture of light oil film and dust collection on the undercarriage engine and transmission area. There is not a bunch of crud built up underneath this car. If you look at the attached picture on the cover of the appraisal you will see it is covered in dirt back in 2012 where it was stored for decades in a warehouse at the Foster Farms Racing Team chicken ranch. I would imagine dirt would collect on the undercarriage just as it would on the surface of the car. A little oil film from a leaky power steering unit would certainly attract dust to stick to it giving the appearance of having lots of road film miles on the car. The original owner put approximately 4,000 miles on this car before foster farms purchased it. I spoke with the lead mechanic yesterday and he clearly stated it had extremely low mileage on it and they only drove it 500 miles in the decades they owned it. They did not work on or restore this car in any manner as it was already in great original condition. Looking at pictures of the undercarriage on my BaT listing does not negate the facts stated by prior owners. It is important to note that the original owner did put approximately 4,000 miles on it during his ownership. A 1960's classic car like this would clearly show signs of wear on the door panels, seats, center console, door sagging, window crank operation, windshield rock chips and sand marks, etc.. This car looks like new inside and out , drives like new and is an amazing classic car. People can believe as they will or find justification to dispute the mileage of this vehicle but I stand behind the low mileage claimed on my listing. I close on this subject by stating I have not owned this car since new and have done my best to verify the mileage as previously explained in my response to comments. We simply wiped it down with acetone prior to touching up the paint. Unless you were actually here with your scraper while we did the brakes this is nothing more than unfounded conjecture.\r\n-The chip on the rear brake drum and stud replacement were caused during the brake job we did. The mechanic had difficulty with his brake hub puller removing the hub after sitting for 62 years. I had the front rotors and rear brake drums turned with new pads and shoes to ensure the brakes were new and in tip top shape for the next owner. The original shoes and pads still had plenty of life on them but thought it was important to replace them during the brake service as they are relatively inexpensive from the Studebaker dealers, I ordered parts from.\r\n-The battery in the engine bay was removed by the owner I purchased the car from and relocated to the trunk with a new battery. But it is a very nice color on this car and whoever did it, seems to have done a very thorough job as I haven't caught any glimpse of the original gold color in any of the photos. And it does appear to be a pretty old repaint itself of some sort, wasn't done anytime in the reasonably recent past. Like others, I doubt Studebaker would have repainted it as they were pretty busy at the time just trying to stay in business and repainting cars non standard colors likely would not have been that feasible. But whoever painted it, does seem to have dug down pretty deep into things and got the bronze paint into some tight spots that a lot of people would not have bothered. At least from what I can tell scrolling through the photos. This car definitely seems to have an intriguing history and the repaint is a part of the story one way or another. Luckily it wasn't repainted an undesirable color. Standard gold Avantis are certainly nice. But this one definitely looks very nice in bronze, no doubt, maybe even better still.\n\nFortunately most Studebaker people are not crazily obsessed with everything being 100% original (or faked to be original like some other makes) and all of that. The cars are all so rare anyway no matter what, that just having anything reasonable original is already a good thing. It is just that if this car truly is such low miles, if it had been completely more original, it would be rare stacked on top of rare on top of another layer or 2 of rare. It is an original R2 Avanti in very nice condition. That itself is already pretty rare in the grand scheme of things. But that is pretty normal to Studebaker people because almost everything is pretty rare in general. What is rare to non-Studebaker people is not that rare to them. But if this had been all 100% nuts and bolts, rust/dust/patina everything pretty original, now we are getting into it hard and deep.\n\nRegardless, this car still seems to be very nice and I still give the 5400 miles claim a lot of merit if it does pan out to be correct. An old repaint from back in the day in my mind doesn't negate that. And as far as that goes, I'd much prefer a vintage repaint like this than a newer/better fresh one to be honest.
