For this platform either brand is a good call but Process West stopped exporting to the U.S. from Australia so the Grimmspeed unit is your only choice now. Seller, do you know if this trans swap included the front LSD as the Spec B 6 speed still came with an open fron diff as compared to the STI trannies. This car has the proper parts and the IAG built shortblock is a stout unit for sure as they are on the short list of good Suby engine builders. The VF-52 turbo is a mild upgrade to the whole system and certainly isn\u2019t stressing this mill at all, (if running a proper tune of course). Drove a similar set up for many years in my \u201805 GT wagon track car and routinely surprised many high dollar cars on track. The fueling and durability mods are already here, swap in a larger turbo and one can put down some serious power. Wanted to come out and say that I was the third owner of this car (10/2015-7/2018) and the one that did most of the mods. Here\u2019s the story: \r\nBought the car stock at 62k. I had ringland failure at 67k (covered under used car limited warranty by the dealer I bought it from). But I decided to throw more money at it and get IAG stage 1 Block (#787 I think)\r\n\r\nAll the engine work was done by precision tuning motorsports in spotswood NJ and completed late July if 2016. and the tune was done by Kevin, who works there and does most of their dynoing. \r\nThe engine/power mods came later at around 70-72k\r\nI bought a cheap VF52 turbo off a friend that ended up blowing pretty fast. I had it rebuilt with an 11 blade compressor wheel and a bigger, ceramic coated hot side... so it\u2019s effectively a 16g. \r\n\r\nThe original trans had a little buzz since I got it but I was told it wasn\u2019t anything serious but when we went for a power run on the dyno (see dyno chart) it blew when we hit 3rd gear. So I replaced it with a 2011 STI trans which had 50k on it when I put it in (see service records for most of this info) That, like I said earlier had a fully functioning DCCD system by DCCDPro.com\r\n\r\nAs for the deer strike, I went to school in upstate NY and hit a deer while having fun on a backroad. Ended up off the road in the ditch, thus the reason for the suspension components being replaced. However the car was never totaled. The car has a repainted/replaced bumper, hood, lights front quarter panels and a couple other bits.\r\n\r\nHowever the MAIN reason I sold the car to the 4th owner was for the intermittent smoking issue I had on start up. The engine just never seemed fully healthy. I disclosed my last compression test/leakdown info (which was fine) to the new owner when he decided to purchase to car and was fully aware of the potentially serious issues with the engine. I\u2019ve kept some contact with him since and I know he\u2019s made some attempts to fix these issues but judging by the feedback knock and Dyn. Adv. Mult. he was unable to fix these critical issues that the car had. \r\n\r\nAll that being said.... when I had it, the car was a BEAST. It makes 21.5 psi and pulls like crazy as it hits full boost at around 3100 Rpm. \r\nWhoever decided to pick up the car will have an amazing platform to try and mend. It was never a Legacy STI. It had the STI trans but with an open front diff, and viscous center. The big R180 Torsen rear diff is a nice touch. The suspension had a few aluminum parts that saved a whopping 8 pounds or so, and a few stiffer bushings, namely the slightly firmer front LCA bushings later used on the GH/GE chassis WRX. I scored a used set of these arms for my 09 WRX, but I pressed the rock hard group N bushings into them. The Bilstein dampers are the party piece of the Spec B though even so tuned for comfort. The Spec B is not in any way a bigger STI. But it is the absolute best Legacy ever offered in the US.\r\n\r\nNow this one...with the real STI trans, proper front LSD and DCCD center, is the way Subaru should have built them!
