As an \u201887, it should have a three-piece front air dam, but the seams are missing on this one. However, the air dam is the correct design for the year and not the single-piece of the \u201888-\u201889. Perhaps it\u2019s been repaired as most have and the seam covered over. No harm, no foul here.\n\nThe color is noted on the invoice as Sand Mist but this color is usually known as Shetland Beige in Conquest parlance and the similar Palermo Gray in Starion-speak. \n\nAs others have noted, the interior is the loved, yet controversial burgundy/maroon and the front seats have been recovered, but to a high standard. \n\nThe HP rating for \u201887 is 176, not 188 as listed with torque at 221 not 234. Those higher numbers are for the \u201888-\u201889 model years. \n\n @karld, you did indeed have a rare model in your \u201885.5 ESi which introduced the intercooler and raised the HP and torque numbers noted above for this example. \n\nAlso as noted, the engine bay was painted at the factory without the clear coat which makes the paint appear different than the exterior panels. Also, the photos where the side panels appear different colors is usually just lighting variance. \n\nOverall, this car is a worthy choice for anyone interested in bidding. The extensive underbody shots show no issues while the engine bay only shows the radiator as non-stock and it\u2019s a popular choice. Here we go:\n\nMost \u201887s had body colored rear bumpers, but not all as seen on this car. With a build date of 06/86, this is an early \u201887 model and doesn\u2019t have the numerous updates implemented later in the MY run such as the piston and pin change, flywheel upgrade, and oil cooler update that were all made in 05/87. But, it does have the 87MY improved fuel management system and elimination of the fuel cut off circuit. \n\nAs noted previously, the bump in HP and torque comes into play on the 88MY thanks to an increase in boost to 10psi along with some needed bolstering of the rear end and ECU, among half a dozen other items. \n\nStarion and Conquest production lines were one and the same with cosmetic differences the only distinction. Tail lights are different, the B pillar insert is different and the front grille slot is black on Starion and body color on Conquest. Only Conquest had vanity mirror lights and only Starion had the triple diamond on the steering wheel except for those units that slipped through. One of my four has this odd feature. \n\nI would not hesitate to bid on this car even without the final tweaking offered by the 88-89 cars due to its amazing condition and honest presentation. So easy to maintain. Clutches were a one to two hour job (clutch chatter was hard to cure). The Achilles heel was the rear exhaust stud would almost always break and half the time required cylinder head removal to get it out (cylinder head removal was also about a one hour job because you take the intake and exhaust with it).
