The Shelby car was later owned by actor Ed Hermann. I vintage raced it at Watkins Glen in the mid 70's. The VSCCA was the companion race to the U.S. Gran Prix. I also raced it at Black Hawk Farms and Elkhart Lake. In the early 90's it received the Inskip Cup at an the AMOC annual meet at Lime Rock Park. My son flipped it on the Lime Rock's West Bend. Mine, being an early car, has 4 wheel drum brakes, rather than the front discs this one has. These cars are certainly interesting and fun to drive, making it a decent touring car, especially for the era. The engine is great, producing good power with a wonderful exhaust note. These cars also have a more \"British\" style to the body than the later Touring bodied cars, with understated details and very little chrome while still being an elegant tourer. My only complaint about driving mine is the steering, which is relatively heavy and truck-like. A worn steering box can also make driving it a bit of a challenge, especially with bias ply tyres as there is play in the middle range of the steering that only gets worse with wear.
