The response I got when asking about my September 71 build Bristol \"The last time Bristol (058) shows up in the colour sample charts - at least as far as we have them - is in summer 1971.\" Then we have photo number 187 as evidence of at least a repaint if not color change at some point in this cars life if I am not mistaken. The old cracked and chipped stickers with the paint reveal make it appear factory however, but could be a very old color change done and new stickers applied?. The paint chips (photo 177) also don't reveal another color to my eye. Is it factory or complete older color change down to bare metal? Regardless (original color or not) I am a fan of this one with a few things I'd change for personal preference and enjoy driving around. The factory color palette doesn't follow the model year change as closely as federally-mandated bumpers or emissions - nor would it be necessary. By mid-1972, there are likely no examples in this color produced.\n\nThis car seems to be largely \"preserved\" and I look upon that as positive. The carpet set is replaced and the upper dash portion recovered - not original, but necessary for a tidier interior.\n\nThe sidemarkers are present on the rear quarters, but missing on the front fenders. From that, I assume the front fenders have been replaced perhaps due to rust. Not uncommon, even in warm, dry climates. However, the leading edge of the hood seems to bulge upward in the center and fails to follow the contour of the nose panel. Collision damage? Not enough to replace the nose it seems, as the snorkel is not present.\n\nThe orange \"BMW Parts\" sticker on the RF inner fender did not appear on production cars until 1974. \n\nThere is no underhood insulation, which by now would have turned to dust. But there is no weather stripping or stickers, either, suggesting a possible panel replacement. Also missing is the long rubber gasket along the cowl. \n\nThe bumpers show signs of having been drilled for AMCO accessory overrider bars. Cool period accessory, but hard to source today. \n\nThe rear window glass appears to be both tinted and lacking the later-model defroster grid. That piece is likely original-to-the-car and unavailable today.\n\nThese are not criticisms, but merely observations. I like this car.
