Yes it's a D- J tronic and it runs good. Doesn't burn any oil. Just a few minor glitches with a little TLC back to its former glory. The only Minor problem fuel pressure bleeds when turned off. I'm suspecting faulty fuel pressure regulator, although when it's running stays right at 34 lb of pressure... Other than that, no major problems runs like a champ.. I remove the air conditioning as I use it as a winter car... Let me know if there are any other questions. With some fussing and fine tuning they could be made to work \"ok\", but it was never a hot climate car and adding AC exacerbated overheating. My friend had a new 1974 EMS which came with a tachometer. The engine was the same in the LE and EMS and would really wind. \r\nNot having a tachometer in my LE I am sure I revved mine way too high many times, but it never blew.\r\nI drove the SAAB about 3 years before the valve guides wore excessively. My racing a 914 and 240Z on the way to work in the morning when the engine hadn\u2019t fully warmed probably contributed to the issue.\r\n\r\nAt the time one of the modifications was to adjust the fuel pressure regulator just a little to increase the fuel pressure. I don\u2019t know if it helped much. \r\nIt's electrical controlled fuel injection never gave a minutes problem in the three years I drove the SAAB hard and traveled in the car.\r\n\r\nMy car came with six mud flaps (three on each side) one about midway of the door back under the body. The aerodynamics with these mud flaps kept the car relatively clean in bad weather.\r\n\r\nThe clutch was easy to change and could be done standing at the front of the car with a tool I fabricated to depress the clutch fingers.\r\nBut after changing the clutch I learned that clutch slave cylinder leaking was the actual problem.\r\n\r\nI bought one of those spare gas cans that fit inside the spare shown in picture 39.\r\n\r\nRecently in the garage I found a new old stock B pillow rear seat passenger assist handle.\r\nIt can be seen in picture 2 of this car.\r\nToo bad there are none of these cars around, I\u2019d give it to someone if they could use it.\r\n\r\nMy 99LE had only one recurring problem that was annoying.\r\nThe ignition switch located in a very low console between the seats had a couple of geared segments that would wear causing them to skip engaging and fail routinely. Did have steering alignment done. She steers straight. Just the outside of tires do get worn after years of driving due to caster needing to be done. At the time I did not have caster shims which just need to be added to correct this problem, which I do have now was able to locate shims for proper alignment. As far as driving she drives straight... Easy fix with the shims to correct problem. Replacement pumps came w/o the valve, had to swap from the old pump.\r\nThe shims can be added to change the camber from .25 pos. to .25neg. with correct toe. tire wear will be uniform and understeer will be reduced. Saab made this change MY91 900 if I remember correct. Maybe not because I am 78 and still working on all Saabs. Burned 2 clutches and stripped the trans. input shaft towing a boat. Now I have a 9-5 wagon for towing and a 9-3 Aero vert. These cars were technologically so far ahead of most other cars manufactured at the time.\n\nThey had mechanical fuel injection, dual diagonal braking (the precursor to ABS), the high beam switch on the turn signal stalk (as opposed to the button on the floor that you would access with your foot), a rear seat that folded down to offer a much larger trunk area, and on the earliest models a feature called free wheeling, which let the engine disengage from the transmission in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. \n\nThe 99 being front wheel drive was also a great car in snow. Back in the 1970's before awd SUV's existed the SAAB 99's would get you to your destination in heavy snow while most of the rear wheel drive cars were stuck on the side of the road. I remember as a teenager driving my late Dad's SAAB 99 during a heavy snow fall where the only vehicles I would see on the road were 4 wheel drive jeeps with plow attachments (from the local gas stations), heading out to plow some home owners driveway, who had a contract with the station. \n\nMuch simpler times back then and IMHO much better times..
