It is/was not, and I even confirmed the factory interno number. At some point, the 365 2+2 had thrown a rod, because there was a hole in this block, it could and can be fixed, but someone had a bad day. Add to that the fact that most of these tend to be run on undersized 205/70 tires when the correct factory sizes were first 205/80 then later the 215/70 that this car looks to be wearing, so many of these cars sit too low and the wheel wells are not filled because they run the under-sized, but easier to find 205/70 tires, and have a hydraulic leak. As far as length these are about the size of a modern 5 series BMW, but narrower and lower and the weight of a 3 series. When new, these were considered big compared with Spitfires, Midgets, Elans, and Beetles, but nowadays, park it next to a \"compact\" mercedes B220 and the 356GT2+2 looks small and sleek by comparison. The size of the average car (or pickup or SUV) on the road today is SO much bigger than in the 60's that these no longer look big at all, unless parked next to an Elan... Sadly it did not sell.\r\n\r\nWell, neither did this one. DriverSource in Houston takes fine pictures and posts photos of worthy cylinder compression numbers, but were a wee bit deceptive on this queen mother. Post-auction inspection revealed that the leak-down on one bank of cylinders was 30%, and boroscope revealed severe pitting. The inspector did not check the other bank for fear that the motor would seize. (Now if the seller went through the trouble of running a compression test, why not go through the marginally more trouble of doing a leak-down?). Also a wheel bearing was terribly loose and the inspector did not feel it was safe to take on the road. Also noted some wiring problems. Other details from the report are getting hazy 3 years on, but there were enough red flags that this was a car very different from what was represented, and I decided against purchasing the car. BaT refunded the auction fee immediately after I sent the inspection report. No idea what the fate of the car is.
