I like the letter about the customer's desire to modify the wings. My MG-M still has the original \"swept\" wings, each wing with an oval section of metal added back in where the tires rubbed right through the aluminum from years of full-cranked turns. I have often contemplated cutting that area out and adding in a cupped section to blend with the lines of the inner wings - allowing enough space for a full turn! But, haven't the heart to chop into the car! Of course, the example offered here has \"cycle wings\" not original to the car - so there is nothing to rub (problem solved!). \r\n\r\nThe body noted as a Double Twelve has a little misleading info in the description. Boat-Tails were common to all M's, not just the double twelves. As was the fabric covered body, until 1932 when the very late models got metal panels. The KEY differentiation here of the double twelve body is the low cut of the doors - the standard M body had a straight line from the base of the windshield to the back of the car. Also of interest are the two latches on the boot, rather than one on the very tip - I have never noticed that before. And of course, double twelves had the cycle wings and the headlamps placed closer together (I assume that without the swept wings, the mounting options are apparently different). Oh, and those bucket seats - regular M would have been a traditional bench style. You can see all of these differences on the red car in the gallery - I presume the same car before conversion? License numbers differ.\r\n\r\nThe car appears to have a newer radiator installed with the original style honeycomb shown in the gallery. One of my next adventures is to see if I can get my honeycomb rad to stop leaking! \r\n\r\nAnother interesting item... there is a panel on each side of the car just under the bonnet - the bottom edge of each bonnet side panel butts to this panel. In some photos this is clearly aluminum (from factory, thin aluminum bent over a thin board) and in other photos it is black. But, in all cases, the panel would have been under an inch tall - here it appears to be closer to 2 inches tall. A double-twelve feature? I don't know. But, I like it and I have also contemplate doing this since the original design had a HUGE gap between the bottom of the bonnet side panel and this panel. That was missed in my comments. The earlier photos taken at Minter Gardens, show the car before it got new tires and had the aluminum side pieces painted. I ordered and received the Blockley tires last summer. They have about 20 miles on them. The tires on the car had good tread but were very old, so I decided to go with the racing style Blockleys. The aluminum side pieces came off the car when I had the radiator out last summer for re-coring. I had them painted black because the unpainted aluminum just doesn't look right (to me.) The aluminum pieces are 1 1/2 inches thick. \r\n\r\nThe photo in the gallery is of a different red M-type. This is there just to show people what the original would have looked like. Not to split hairs, but not all the M-types had boat-tail rears. The Sportsman coupe version had a flat back. The Jarvis bodied one also was straight across the back. That being said only a very small few of these odd ones were made. A metal body was offered in the last year of production for an additional 10 GBP. 170 of those cars were made. Putting it into perspective, M-types have been listed for sale online from 20-30,000 GBP and one sold here last year for equivalent of US$20,000. That one had a body that was too narrow so the spare tire would not fit in the trunk. Just a little more info on the awards this car has won. If you keep the car as nice as it is and show it, you will probably need some shelf space for the hardware. I took the M-type to 21 shows between 2006 and 2014. The car won 20 first places, 9 of which were Best in Show awards. The rest were Class wins. It won 3 seconds and 3 thirds. Only twice it did not win anything. The events were all in the Pacific Northwest. In 2011 and 2013, it won Best in Show at the prestigious Western Washington ABFM. At the Minter Garden Concours, it won its class one year, giving it entry into the Premier Class for the following two years. This class is made up of all the class winners, both American and imports, from the previous two years. The M-type won the Premier Class. I do mean little... it can park comfortably on a 4'x8' sheet of plywood. If you are a larger person, say over 5'6\" & 150 pounds, you may find the cabin of this car a wee bit tight (!). This car is even more attractive in person than the pictures could show. Be advised though, the 'M' Type MG is most assuredly a creature of its' time with 1920s braking, lighting and acceleration. Keep in mind also that this car was originally intended to go toe to toe with Herbert Austin in the \"under \u00a3200\" class. If you are in the mood for a \"Big Boy's go kart\" and have the place to drive it and store it, you will go far and look hard to find better than this car.
