In the US, muscle cars were raging and seeing a 427, 440, 428 something or another was a huge treat. In Japan, seeing a 2 Litre anything especially a twin cam, was the equivalent of seeing a big block muscle car. Also at that time, there weren't many exciting kei cars. When I first saw an N600 in the USA, my mind was blown. As kei cars then in Japan were limited to 360cc's, the 600cc N600 felt like a SS Nova with a big block. Even the hood had a power bulge exclusive to the N600 that mimicked American muscle cars. But since throughout my recent high school days I'd had a 12 year old MGA coupe that spent more time in the shop than on the road, I decided I needed a NEW car but it had to be inexpensive, VERY inexpensive, So, with an advertised sticker price of less than $1600, I rode to my local motorcycle shop and looked longingly at one of these but a mustard yellow,\"sportier\" coupe version. And I was impressed. But, at 6'-4\", although I could fit inside, I just couldn't work the pedals with the door closed. The salesman suggested they could remount the drivers seat a couple inches back for free but I declined, I ended up buying a Datsun 1200 for $1950 (the second cheapest new car).\n\nCoincidentally, 10 years later, I car pooled with a guy that had an exact copy of that little Honda. I selected the Honda, as the dealer at the Honda Motorcycle Store in Jacksonville, Fl. said the engine would last 50,000 miles. I autocross the devil out of the Honda, winning many times in class, traveled Southeast Georgia and North East Florida as a traveling salesman and one day on my way to Gainesville, Fl. I stopped on the side of the road, gave the Honda a pat on the roof, as the odometer turned 100,000 miles. \r\nLater we moved to the N.C Mountains and after awhile the mountain driving killed the original engine with 147,000 original miles on it and the engine had never been out of the car, ever. My best friend in high school had an AN600 - wow, did we ever do some stupid things in it! Late at night we once drove it in the halls of the high school. I also owned one for two years a year or two out of college - used it to commute to my job around Pittsburgh, Pa. It was factory dark red (maroon, I guess) - I had the wheels painted gold and thought it was cool. Smallest thing on the road in Pittsburgh, for sure, but it handled like a go cart and was lots of fun.
