Lever-action units can be designed to be very compact because the linear travel is converted to an arc which then moves a hydraulic piston. That\u2019s why the tube shock mounts stick down by comparison. Hydraulic Armstrongs were a natural improvement over lever action friction dampers which use a stack of interleaved metal disks, and the squeezing force clamping them together is adjusted by tightening the bolt that runs through their centers. Less than ideal because they lose effectiveness as they heat up, and are subject to \u201cstiction\u201d (static friction) in which it takes more force to get them moving than the amount of force desirable in operation. So you may get a rock hard ride over the initial, small suspension travel cycles followed by the Goldilocks just right damping, followed by very little damping at all if they can\u2019t dissipate the friction heat fast enough. Oh, and the compression and rebound damping can\u2019t be tuned separately with lever-action disk dampers. There are a total of three extra wheels with tires, they come with the car. Could not tell you if they are painted or are chrome I would need to take a closer look at them to determine condition and brand names. As far as driving the car 1000 miles as is? The car has been garaged for many years and driven very little in that time. I would not recommend driving it long distances before first giving it a thorough going over : tires ,fluids, belts etc. I will post a short history of the car in a few minute so you can have more information.\nDon't know what to tell you about the oil pressure gauge being slow except that is a 55 year old British car maybe? This was my father-in -laws car, who was an avid car collector throughout his life, with his specialty being British sports cars. He probably owned every important British make at some point in his life, the man lived for it. He purchased this car in the same condition its in now in Oregon, and as far as we know the car has always been in Oregon but we cannot confirm that. Being an Oregon car, it has no real rust some surface discoloration can be noted on metal on the underside and on parts of the engine but all metal is solid throughout . The car was kept in very clean garage and was seldom driven ( he had a bunch of other cars). The only times he actually took it out was to attend British Field meets in and around Oregon, where he received various awards for this specific car. As far as condition goes its very, very nice, mechanically it starts right up and runs great, although it has not been serviced in quite some time, a new owner might want to give it a thorough going over before a longer trip.\r\nCosmetically it is in beautiful condition, On the body exterior only three issues popped up: 1. A rear window trim has a small dent (see picture) 2. A section of the rubber weatherstripping for the rear hatch door has crackling. (see Picture) 3.There is some chrome corrosion on the left side of the front bumper ( see pictures). As far as exterior paint, it looks to be in really excellent condition, I know that no paint job is ever perfect but to my eye it seems very close, I seriously could not find any issues. The interior also seems to be pretty close to perfect condition, at least I was not able to find anything really wrong. These are great touring cars. I\u2019m overe 80 and I can comfortably drive mine over 500 miles a day. In April, I took it on a 2500-mile trip. I love the car so much it\u2019s hard to be objective about it, but I swear it runs the long hauls with less driver-fatigue than ANY car I\u2019ve ever driven - including the modern ones. \r\n\r\nThese cars do not come off the line very rapidly but they sure settle in nicely at 70-75 mph. Mine has the 3.07 rear end - with which that 75 mph comes up at about 2500 rpm. It\u2019s just loafing along - quietly and smoothly, enhancing your confidence with every mile.\r\n\r\nThis is psychological, I know, but mine is also a mile-eater. Just about the time I think I\u2019ve been on the road for about an hour and maybe 60-70 miles - I look at the odometer and my watch and discover I\u2019ve been on the road for 2-1/2 hours and covered as much as 170 miles. On the interstates, more like 185 miles.\r\n\r\nConsidering the low production of MGCs - just 9002 units in a little over two years - it\u2019s amazing what is available for these cars in the performance aftermarket. Not as sporty as the MGB but I\u2019ve found marked improvement in cornering with the recommended anti-sway bars front and rear - and the aftermarket shocks this car already has. \r\n\r\nThese cars were incorrectly set up for original press reviews - \u2018 got bashed and never really recovered. Just in recent years, we are discovering what wonderful cars they really are. This one sure looks one heckuva lot better than my own unrestored one. MGfoursixeight is so right - the bid price would have to at least quadruple before you could think of restoring one to the same standard for the same money - let alone less. MGCs are attracting more interest every year and they\u2019re getting harder to find. Wish I had room for a second one. \u2018 Don\u2019t know why - I just like to hoard nice things. Might have known this car back in the 1990's, but don't remember it for sure. Would like to look at it and could evaluate if needed.\r\nLots of misinformation out there about the MGC and much of it just repeating what someone else said way back when.\r\nThese cars are different and they are NOT MGBs with a different motor. This is not the same motor as the Austin C-series. Structurally nearly all interior panels are unique forward of the seats.\r\nPrior to 1968 there was no \"model year\" and most were titled the year they were sold, but the US required certain things each year so these cars have model years. This is a 1969 model based on the reclining seats (missing the tall \"chicklet\" style head restraints), the side mounted reflectors and closer-set front turn lights.\r\nProbably missing the head restraints because the tan upholstery kits never came with the covers for the \"chicklets.\" Those were only on US Market MGs for 1969 only.\r\nProper brake system and those will work very well when properly maintained. Only the US required a dual braking system, thus the twin boosters, one for the front and one for the rear.\r\nThis car should have the 3.7:1 rear axle gears and as such with the proper tires 75 mph will come up quick enough at 3200 rpm. Mine will cruise all day at that speed comfortably. These are great long distance touring cars even if they are not actual \"sports cars.\"\r\nThere were only 9002 MGCs built and only 1773 GTs built for the US market.\r\nMost of the shortcomings can be easily overcome, mostly the stiffer front and added rear anti-roll bars and polyurethane front suspension bushings. These 7 main bearing engines are tough, and they hardly suffer from low oil pressure issues. The best thing to do with the electric oil pressure gauge and sender unit is to throw them both and install a mechanical gauge from a later MGB - they look the same.
