I owned a brand-new 1970 1800E and had enough issues with the fuel-injection that it didn't stick around long. I went back in years and actively sought out the last of the carb equipped cars with the 2.0L engine. Marvelous combo of the B20 and Strombergs - the Strombergs were much easier to keep in tune than the SU's (which required seasonal adjustments to account for temperature and air-density). The Strombergs had rubber diaphragms that were simple to replace, and shaft seals on the throttle shafts, avoiding the inevitable air leaks the US developed over time.\n\nWhoever did the interior nailed it. It's marvelous. The center console and shortened gear shaft lever bring a touch of modernity to the design that is visually much more attractive than the plastic vacuum formed console the 1800E came with. The steering wheel looks like a great replacement for the government required three-spoke padded wheel on the post 1968 cars that replaced the two spoke aluminum spoke wheel of the original 1800. A purist won't like it - an enthusiast will love it.\n\nIt also looks excellent underneath. I only see one spot of concerning rust - that's on a rear wheel arch dogleg, (image 235) a rather common spot on 1800's.\n\nThe DOT date on the tires, if interpreted correctly indicate 2004? If so - enough said.\n\nMy only question might be about the steering with the wider tires on the car (the originals were 165/80-15) - in my experience (with an 1800) putting wider tires on the car usually increased steering effort, and the 1800 in stock form required some muscle in parking lot maneuvers - a buyer may want to consider electric assist for the steering (I've seen it on an 1800, and it was very well hidden away, and very effective.)\n\nOverall - very nice car! The later model grille insert actually seems to work on this car, too.\n\nThat re-trim in the interior looks beautiful! I wish they had added a few horizontal pleats to the door cards, and I miss the embossed Volvo logos on those as well as the rear seatback, but otherwise it looks beautifully done. Even recovered the windshield visors! \n\nUndercarriage looks pretty solid to me, which is always welcome. Are those iPd blue lowering springs? But, no anti-roll bars? The Cragars are a nice throw-back to the old days, but are all the tires now 20 years old? Love the beefier stance vs. the skinny, inset stock wheels. But yes, @deilenberger has made an excellent point about adding electric power steering. As to the B20 engine, can any others comment on the relative ease of working with these Stromberg carbs vs. the SU's of the previous models? \n\nAs usual for @1600veloce, a very nice driving video, and yes, I would agree this is a top-ranked seller for a quality preparation and presentation. They always seem to do a wonderful job, but oversights by BaT are not uncommon.\n\nThis is the final year of the cool \"jukebox\" dashboards on these coupes, and that is prized by most of us over the succeeding fake wood veneer iteration. I'm wondering about the accuracy of the tach, though. It seems to be revving quite high during the drive video. I always see the interesting term of \"flippers\" Some take offense to it, does not bother me at all. I have been in the automotive business my whole life. Service, machine shop, sales, dealers both retail and wholesale. In 2020 we reshaped our whole business model and built a whole business directed at selling cars on BaT and also assisting other BaT members. I have a dedicated staff, including a large media team that I have built from zero. We launched a whole other division in October which is an assist program to help private party sellers bring cars to BaT and using our tools and experience for a better auction sale. I have my own term of flipping, one is wholesale which is the true art of fast trading. I was in this side for a better part of 30 years. Another form of flipping are people that pose as private sellers that jump titles. Selling cars from the local gas station or grocery store parking lot. Those are the most dangerous sellers, for many reasons. These types of sellers hide in many online and in person auctions. BaT does a pretty good job of vetting the titles on submissions from private parties. I can't speak for all the dealers that sell here. I do know a fair share of good ones, they ,most likely take up well over 50% of the weekly listings here. Frankly without some of them you would not have some of the neat cars that make up the core of this site. We service many cars from fellow BaT members that purchase from other sellers. The most issues we see are private sellers not disclosing issues with cars. You don't have to guess which,,, definitely the '64, a joy to drive and at the same time if I ever sell it here on BAT a great candidate for the anal retentive purists to tear apart.
