Personally I love to modify and personalize cars, but I always try to buy something unmolested and as original as possible. Which of course is exactly how I bought this one 5 years ago. I think the fact that the modifications are all period correct is very important. Had the mods involved an engine swap, modern wheels, etc. I would agree the value may be negatively impacted. But everything on the car is exactly how it would\u2019ve been modified in the late 80\u2019s/early 90\u2019s. The Magnacharger alone is far more rare than the comparable Callaway Turbo kit. Unfortunately I\u2019m out of town on vacation and I can\u2019t get it on the rack and take undercarriage shots. However I can assure you it\u2019s clean, rust free, and the pinch rails are straight. The a/c was removed prior to my ownership so I don\u2019t have the York compressor, but as mentioned all of the under dash components are present. I\u2019ve been watching local LKQ inventory to see if I could score the necessary components to complete the a/c, but as of now I haven\u2019t been able to. I agree that detailed pictures of the underside would only be of benefit. Unfortunately we didn\u2019t put the car on a lift for the shoot, and I\u2019m out of town for Thanksgiving so I can\u2019t take additional pictures/videos for specific requests. However, I am trying to be as accommodating as possible. \r\n\r\nAs far as tread depth, I\u2019m not sure that\u2019s quite as relevant on this car. But, the Azenis start life with only 7/32 of depth. So there\u2019s not much tread. If you bid and win, I will happily replace the tires with a good all-season of your choice at no cost to you if you prefer. The door jams are pictures and zoomable so I think those pictures are adequate. Regarding the rear hatch decal, you clearly have some very good knowledge on these cars. Paint and mods would lessen my interest. I would think that it could be worth more stock. I would have a hard time deciding if I should leave the paint or to have the whole care repainted. Could get expensive if you pay $30,000.00+ for the car and then repaint it. Cars are only original once. There is probably hard data out there in the VW fanboy world to prove me wrong but my hunch is solely based on being around at the time these cars were sold new and here in So Cal white and red ruled the day. But black is such a great color in these cars because the small details like red trim around the front grille really pops. I have been wanting to see a black Mk1 GTI to pass through BAT for quite sometime as I feel it would perform quite well... we will see what happens. The non-stiock spec and time of year may play factors in this ones final number but keep in mind, the silver GTI that brought $33k worth of bids was at $14,350 at the same time in the bidding that this black one eclipsed the $19k threshold.
