To my knowledge (as represented by the selling dealer who had consigned the car for the previous owner - who was also the first owner), the car was not tracked. The modifications were made for him to compete in the annual event in Idaho... www.sunvalleytourdeforce.com ...where they close miles of highway and let anyone pay a fee to see how fast their car will go. I think three passes were made. Here is one of them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5La71jUKII \r\n\r\nAs for the over-revs, I do not think the rev limiter was raised (if this is even possible). Keep in mind that hitting the rev limiter causes a range 1 over-rev to be recorded. This was really easy to do when the car had the single mass flywheel as the car revved very quickly. The over-revs beyond range one are mechanical over-revs due to someone likely missing a shift. Going from 4th to 5th and actually selecting 3rd or worse, going from 6th to 5th and actually selecting 3rd. \r\n\r\nI have posted technically before about over-revs previously on BaT (possibly when I sold my 996 GT2) so I won't repeat it here as you can access my previous comments through BaT. I will say that the DME report is only one tool in evaluating a car. A proper PPI should be done as well and at my expense I have provided one. The technician commented that the diagnostic tests performed were normal and that he wasn't worried about damage being done by the over-revs (please see photos for the report). There have been quite a number of hours passed since the range 5 over revs - meaning if there were damage, it likely would have shown itself by now. \r\n\r\nHow many BaT readers have bought a pre-over-rev-report car (like a 993 or 964) without a clue as to how many over-revs there were? Point being, don't pass on a good car just because of over-revs. Please understand that this topic is very misunderstood by Porsche owners and there are tons of people commenting who should not. There's one British guy on you-tube who starts out saying \"I am no expert\" and then goes on for another 13 minutes! If you want one of the better explanations please watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKgOAWMjZLQ\r\n\r\nRegarding the mods, I am told the goal for the previous owner (beyond winning his class) was to attain 200 mph. So he had GMG Motorsports install headers, straight through exhaust (no cat), hi-torque clutch and single mass flywheel, GMG sway bars, GMG adjustable rear suspension links, GMG intercoolers and the GIAC maps - one for pump gas and one for race gas. Apparently the car produced 690HP on the GMG dyno. I can't say if that was on pump gas or not. All of these modifications have been removed and the OEM parts installed except for the GIAC map. The hand-held GIAC map switch tool comes with the car so the buyer can switch maps.\r\n\r\nAll the go-faster parts taken off are already sold except for the high-torque clutch/flywheel kit as shown in the photos.\r\n\r\nAs for the previous owner's driving abilities...I've never met him but I've never gone 200 mph and he has. Mezger engines are fairly robust and bulletproof so over-revs on these are not as concerning as other Porsches. That's correct, zero. As I can attest, the Metzger engine is indeed a marvel. However I would put up the engines in either one of my Corvette ZR-1's ['90/'94] against any Metzger engine as great as the latter are, any day of the week. While the fiberglass body and its components are, as with all Corvettes, fairly junky in many respects [I am no fan of Corvettes primarily for that reason but am also no fan of the image as well], the Lotus designed, Mercury Marine built ZR-1 engine has no peer. And I am talking the first year it came out ['90] and right on through the end of the first ZR-1 series in 1995. I have put nearly 80,000 miles on my '90 ZR-1 [with approx. 15K miles on various tracks] and I have never, ever had the slightest problem with the engine whatsoever. And at the risk of sounding boastful, I will even suggest that I doubt anyone drives their ZR-1 as hard as I have/do on the street either. Suffice to say, and I have said as much on BAT before, that I am reasonably certain that the Lotus/Mercury Marine ZR-1 engine of 1990 - 1995 will go down in automotive history as perhaps the best engine ever put into a car.\r\n\r\nNow back to Porsche for a few more unsolicited opinions. While the Metzger engine is indeed special, the interior of the Porsche GT cars could and should be a heck of a lot better in many respects, starting with their door latches and steering wheels, both of which are not worthy of a $150/$200K vehicle. Nor is the GT's suspension/handling on the street that great either, in my [believe it or not] humble opinion. Which is why so many people spend a small fortune [welcome to the world that is Porsche] improving the ride and handling for the street, in particular. When one takes those two areas alone into consideration with their GT cars, it simply is not at all impressive, especially when you stop to remind yourself, and to reiterate, the 911 has been in a state of constant evolution for 50+ years! Taking that alone into account are they really the premiere sports car builder in the world? I think not.
