I may have gone a bit over-board but have enjoyed the process.\r\n\r\nIt started as a solid, no-rust car silver car which was painted black at some point in its life. The engine and the 901 transmission were rebuilt by the late Curt Westlund and his partner Bob Diers at C.A.R.S. of Omaha, Nebraska. \r\n\r\nThe engine runs perfectly, and the transmission is fresh. I have driven the car around 500 miles on the streets only since the restoration, so the engine and the gearbox are not fully broken in yet. The MFI injection pump was also rebuilt (it took 13 months to get it back!). The shifter is getting broken in. The first gear still needs a little care when you're in a hurry, but is getting better. It\u2019s as good as any of the other 901s I've had!\r\n\r\nAs you will see from the photos and the receipts in the gallery, the mechanicals are all fresh and new or rebuilt. The wheels are fresh and Pirelli Rally tires are new with under 500 miles on them. One thing about the High stance of the car - the suspension can simply be lowered to the standard height without any major work.\r\n\r\nThe interior, from the headline, dash, sun visors, panels, carpet, shifter knob - are all new. The instrument gauges have been rebuilt by Hollywood Instruments, the seats were done by GTS Classics, and the smaller diameter steering wheel has been professionally re-covered.\r\n\r\nThe paint is in good, serviceable condition, and has a good shine. I originally planned on painting it the original silver, but the more we buffed it, the more of the silver paint began to show. So, we decided to leave it as you see it. I don\u2019t know if you caught my earlier comment about seeing all the cars at the end of the Overcrest Rally, but the whole scene really clicked for me and made me appreciate cars, especially 911s, set up like this one. Not an all-out rally or Safari build, just a little more clearance for gravel roads, nice bright lights and a rack for tents etc so you can really get out there and have a VERY special adventure.
