By the early 60s it had taken its toll and would never be fully repaired.\r\n\r\nThe original owner probably traded this beauty in on a newer model; I\u2019m guessing a 1959 Invicta convertible. Invicta because it even sounds like \u2018Vixen\u2019, and we all know what a harlot that \u201959 Buick was. It was probably a convertible, because topless would just add insult to injury.\r\n\r\nThe fins on the new model may be taller, the chrome sport less patina, the body more streamlined, the upholstery free of wrinkles. But this old Buick Century wagon represents something that could never be taken from her . . the unabashed wholesomeness that was only offered in America in the mid-fifties. This car was one you could take home to meet your mother. Granted, you\u2019d stop at Look-Out Point on your way to take her back home, but Mom would never suspect.\r\n\r\nThis was America right before Interstates. Korea was far enough behind us that we didn\u2019t even see it in the rearview mirror. Viet Nam was a dot on the map that nobody looked for. America had found its happy place and this Buick Century could get us there and back. Safely. Buick did not build a \"wagon only\" floor pan.\r\n\r\nIn fact Buick did not fully build the wagon in their factory. No. What you see in the video is the proof that Buick built their wagons up to a point - based on their sedan line (the Special/Century chassis which was shorter than the Super/Roadmaster chassis). So the floor automatically came with the \"sedan spare tire well\" in it as there \"should have been a sedan trunk over it to accommodate the vertical spare tire/wheel. But \u2026 Buick then sent the partially completed vehicle to Ionia (note the build tag on the passenger side of the front seat). Brake shoes and hardware all the way around are excellent, they look like they been replaces in the last couple of years. We put new rear wheel brake cylinders, and rebuilt the front brake cylinders, and flushed the braking system. New points, condenser, and spark plugs. You do not see it in the pictures, but the little side covers that cover the sparkplugs, are now painted same color as valve covers. We also replaced the valve cover gaskets. We overhauled the Carburetor. Rearend gear oil has been replaced as well with fresh oil. Obviously the car is 69 years old, but mechanically it is in great shape. Its the type of car you can Fly in Drive it home.
