My dad recalls the built-in torque meter, also known as the gear lever.\r\n In 1984, she decided to upgrade and splurged on a brand new 240 GL sedan; we're talkin' aluminum turbine wheels, velour interior, metallic graphite paint, sunshine roof, radio with cassette, tachometer, power windows, power door locks, etc. My brother inherited that car, which is fitting seeing how he is working on his PhD. Hardly broken in at 270,000 miles and my brother doesn't intend on replacing it anytime soon, if at all. We call it the Ambassador.\r\nMyself, I had a matching '84 240 GL wagon (same color, interior) but I decided it was much too modern. A '66 Amazon wagon took its place and has served me faithfully as my primary transportation for the past few years. I'm hoping to get about a million or so miles on the recent engine rebuild.\r\nThese are genuinely excellent cars. Fantastically overbuilt and well-thought out. Probably one of the most safe, economical, and practical classics to drive today.
