Comparison: The extra nearly 100hp (and ~50ft-lb tq) was most welcome in the FJ, especially in passing power on the highway and general liveliness. Obviously the visibility was better in the 4R, but I got used to the FJ (you rely on your mirrors more). I liked the longer wheelbase of the 4R. They're both great Toyota SUVs deserving of their fanbases. Seeing how Toyota reinvented the Supra and the lack of an MR2 replacement 30 years later reinforces my belief that classic Toyotas just don't get replicated--so if you like these, I wouldn't hold my breath for a replacement. I pull my 25ft Airstream Safari with my 2006 4Runner V6 Sport Edition all over the place and it does a fantastic job. The Aisin A750F trans used in these was also used in the Tundra/Sequoia and good for 10k+lbs. I have monitored my drivetrain with OBDII bluetooth adapter/TorquePro app and custom PIDs and have never seen anything even remotely alarming.
