Compressors are inexpensive for a V4J, but they will not fit this car unless the manifold piping has been changed out to the V4J style. That piping as also not available beyond finding a take-off. Dick Hussey has a great write-up on this.\r\n\r\nhttps://www.allantesource.com/the-hvac-system-in-your-allant\u00e9.html\r\n\r\nAs to the water pump replacements (and by the way, a Carfax would not say \u201cthe car overheated\u201d), more than likely in both instances the project was undertaken because of a leak at the water pump housing. If the proper GM-spec pellet additive is not used, leaks will develop and the water pump housing is one of the most common. The pump itself is cheap and it is pretty normal to go ahead and replace the pump if one has to go in to replace the gasket in trying to stop a leak. Seeing two water pump replacements doesnt give me any pause in and of itself, but if course it begs the question of whether it was brought on by leaks that could have led to coolant loss sufficient to cause overheating. Overheating can stretch the TTL head bolts and weaken head gaskets. The status can be checked by utilizing one of the cheap combustion leak tester kits available at AutoZone or Amazon. I utilize these before purchasing any Nstar.
