The ignition tumbler gave up so my roommate and I built a hotwire bypass, so I'd start it with a screwdriver. The AC never worked, and summer in Waco, TX meant absolute misery. When the engine finally let go I sold it for... wait for it... $500. I bought my dad's '83 Rabbit diesel to finish out my senior year. That's another story. Anyway, great machine. As much as they're appreciated for their utility by former and current truck owners, they're much less appreciated by car collectors and enthusiasts. The life journey of the average Mazda B-Series ends in a junkyard, rather than many Toyota trucks of the same vintage that often undergo full restorations. This is despite the comparable build quality of Mazda trucks; Mazda spent $100 million developing this generation of trucks to meet consumer demand. It was the last actual Mazda truck that Mazda ever sold in the United States (the next generations were just rebadged Ford Rangers).\r\n\r\nThis particular example presents quite well. It's not a more desirable SE-5 or LX, but its vivid color helps its case. It would need minimal cosmetic work on the interior and exterior to get back to stock (for example, the front bumper and grille are aftermarket replacements).\r\n\r\nA quick tip to improve the appearance with minimal effort: use a Novus Plastic Polish Kit to buff the taillight lenses and bezels. I've had them as a third car for HD runs, dump etc. Of all the trucks owned, the Mazda was by far the most fun truck. It had a sublime (for a truck) 5 speed and tons of character. Back in the 1990's, I replaced the bench seat with RX7 buckets, and made a center console. It was under powered but handled everything I threw at it (including overloading the bed with 1000 lbs of Quikcrete for setting 90 posts in my backyard/// I replaced the shocks shortly thereafter). These were stout trucks and would have kept mine if the rust didn't become so present. \r\n\r\nThis looks to be in excellent shape (a rarity in the DeMarVa area now) .
