This is a very well put together package in the technical aspects IMO. The transmission gear ratios pair perfectly with the power curve, the rear end ratio and tire size, my calcs say a 170ish top speed at full revs which is probably about right given the aero considerations. The longer wheelbase will contribute to stability. Great to see a rear bar too, that no doubt helps with controlling the weight transfer with the higher CG of the super cool body and also to help with rotation on the long wheelbase chassis. Some information I would like to share with any potential buyers:\r\n\r\nThis is by far one of the most fun cars I have ever driven, at no point do you stop smiling as the driver. The car is enjoyable to drive, turns in well, is surprisingly planted at speed, and is glued around the carousel at Road America. Kyle at Valu-Pro Motorsports did a great job setting this car up, but it is not for the faint of heart as 800hp makes even the long straights of Road America go by VERY quickly.\r\n\r\nThe entire experience behind the wheel of this car is just pure enjoyment. From the moment you get in and drive up to grid you have spectators waving, pointing, and cheering which really makes for a special feeling. On track you feel like a super hero passing Porsche's, Aston Martin's, C6'Rs, and other stock cars (mixed class vintage racing). Running fast laps while going 170mph watching that big steel hood ornament wiggle around just plain makes you laugh in your helmet. I had some time this morning to tell more about 55's story. Per my previous post, in July 2019 we knew we had something so we made the commitment to redoing the car. The engine came out first and went to Motor Masters in Hartford, WI. They are one of the few builders around here who can truly handle a NASCAR engine. They do incredible work (including the engine in our Group 6 Boss 302 Mustang) but they are very much in demand, so we had some waiting to do.\n\nIn the meantime we took the body to Vetting Customs in Valders, WI where they sanded everything down and performed a variety of repairs, improvements, and minor modifications. We selected 1955 Ford colors of Banner Blue and Snowshoe White for the repaint.\n\nThe rest of the work fell on Valu Pro Motorsports in Reedsville, WI. Kyle there runs a great race shop and is also an excellent welder / fabricator. The work list was extensive. Frame improvements, mid engine mounts, brakes, steering, suspension, rewiring, etc. They also handled the Jerico repairs needed from our test run, along with the final race prep.\n\nIn late August 2020 the project was nearing completion. The September VSCDA event was in our sights! On 9-3 the car was running again. This was the VSCDA (with HSR) fall vintage festival from September 18-20. You may recall from my other post that we had wrapped up this 14-month project with little time to spare so we had to go straight to the track. We were running two cars that weekend, this one and our Group 6 1970 Mustang Boss 302 (which is our primary car).\n\nNow it's one thing to restore a street car and then gradually ease it back onto the road, carefully sorting out issues while being careful not to damage all the nice work. Well that process becomes pretty intense with a race car that hasn't had a test weekend. But knowing Valu Pro's work and Evan's driving I was feeling pretty confident, and we would be conservative the entire weekend.\n\nWe eased in, 1-2 laps at a time at first, checking things on pit road in between. We had to deal with a variety of shakedown issues at the start; leaking fitting, broken sway bar link, detached shock absorber, failed master cylinder (which was brand new), etc. We gradually stayed out longer and started going faster. It was coming together! We tweaked the car's balance and brake bias. We changed from Hoosiers to Goodyears. Things culminated in a 12th place finish in the sprint race (45 entrants, 35 at the grid) and more smiles than you might imagine.\n\nOne other issue we encountered was the oil pressure light which is the big red indicator on the dash. It works fine. But as we learned, if the sun hits the back of the lens just right (as might happen in an early morning race while you're cresting the main straight at RA) it can make the indicator appear to turn on, scare everyone, and lead to a DNF...\n\nBut aside from a great showing and meeting so many wonderful people, one of my favorite stories from the weekend was the hood. If you look closely at the pictures, you'll see that some show only two hood pins, which is all the car ever had or needed. Well it was now going REALLY fast. Evan reported that the well-secured hood ornament was really starting to flutter around 150 mph, and by 170 it was downright scary. The track workers agreed in the form of a black flag, so the next morning the car had four hood pins.
