It was unlike any other car in my experience. It felt like it had a huge flywheel (it doesn\u2019t) because it changed revs smoothly. Acceleration was brisk in 1st and 2nd, absolutely fine in Paris. It was a bit more leisurely getting up to highway speed. Driving with foot to the floor you become very conscious of the terrain as the car\u2019s forward progress is in direct proportion to gradients. Gentle hills caused it to lose a few revs. Noticeable but not a problem. On a long rise the revs dropped, dropped, dropped until it needed a downshift. The big fun comes after you crest the hill and try to gain as much momentum as possible going down the other side. So, yes, it can get out of its own way. Also, the example I drove might have had the smaller engine, not sure. The ride quality was smoother and more comfortable than any small car I\u2019ve ever driven. It was loads of fun, huge sunroof, big interior. Skinny, tall sidewall tires made for very easy steering. It can corner very fast around tight turns - it just requires lots of steering lock and willingness to watch the horizon tilt to crazy angles and to hear your passengers\u2019 opinions about your apparent lack of sanity. Overall it was hugely entertaining. \r\nOh yes, also the windshield wipers run off the speedometer cable. It will go 110-120 kmh all day and it will keep up with city traffic just fine, but it really comes alive on back country roads. Handling is unlike anything else, it is just amazing. It goes around curves flat out and tears down winding roads faster than most cars, as long as the road keeps going downhill and you don't do anything silly like lifting your right foot. The body will lean at extreme angles, and if you really push it the inside rear tire will lift off the asphalt. 2CVs are brilliantly engineered, practical, extremely reliable and very inexpensive to operate. Most parts are really available, and there aren't that many parts anyway. They're fairly spacious: I'm 6'4\" and there is plenty of room. Finally, they are the ultimate crowd pleaser and conversation starter.
