But all I can see from the pix could easily be done by the weekend \"shade tree\" mechanic/owner.\r\n\r\nThis appears to be a Euro spec car in that there are no holes for Rear Reflectors above the Tail Lights (USA Spec would have them) but there are L & R holes beneath the Rear Bumper for them (Euro Spec). Typically either above or below holes have red plastic reflectors mounted on chromed fairings. They are sometimes available on 356Registry Classifieds at various prices.\r\n\r\nPassenger door & frunk gaps seem a bit proud, but both could be adjusted in.\r\n\r\nUnderside shots look good - no rust apparent, w/possibly a pan replacement. You should check the battery box for rust or replacement during your PPI.\r\n\r\nWhat are the bolts doing coming through the Dash Lip just above the Ignition?\r\n\r\nCoil looks a bit tentative as its clamp is not secured on Left side. (You can see the \"memory\" of the connection inscribed by the once and long time securing.) \r\n\r\nEngine compartment looks \"age appropriate\" but the K&N Air Filters are not correct, although may work OK.\r\n\r\nA replacement vacu-formed plastic \"Frunk Liner\" will cost $400 but will keep stuff from getting into the exposed Fuel Sender wires, etc, and will help keep Tool Kit, Traveling Kit, and Jack in place while you drive.\r\n\r\nFuse Cover should be installed to prevent water or grime mucking around with the very old electrical system. (The system was very good in its day but 63+ years will have added resistance to the old wiring.) Likely it does not need replacing but as likely would benefit from power saving gizmos like LED lights everywhere to both boost radiance and reduce power requirements, and a Starter Relay back by the Starter and taking power directly from the Electrical Bus right there will ease demand on the Ignition Switch.\r\n\r\nDrum Brakes on T6 cars are quite adequately designed and engineered but a good PPI would include inspection of all shoes and drums, including mic'ing the thicknesses of the shoes remaining and the internal dimensions of the drums in several points to judge both roundness and remaining \"meat\" on the Drums. (This takes a special micrometer tool that some 356 shops have. If the results of these checks show that the Drum Brakes need either new Shoes or Re-arched / New Drums the option would be a Front Disc Brake Conversion, realizing that ~70% comes from the Front so the Rears could be left \"as is\". The FDBC kits run about $1200 but are owner installable.\r\n\r\nPictures Do Not Show it but a Dual Stage Brake Master Cylinder retrofit would be good head work.\r\n\r\nPictures Do Not Show it but the Steering Box is likely leaking a bit on a '62 car if it has not been serviced / replaced. On your PPI drive your should check \"Steer Ahead\", L-R Play, Drifting excessively L/R (noting that a bit of R tendency will keep you out of \"glancing\" head-on collisions). If it is leaking Lucas Hub Oil or 80/90 Valvoline Oil or Greasing the Steering Box may extend the Steering Box life. A re-build will be ~$700 with core replacement.\r\n\r\nExhaust video indicates a bit of a hard start, with puff of black smoke. Compression & Leak Down Tests will help determine if Engine Work is needed, Top or Bottom or Full.\r\n\r\nA driving video will help evaluate the overall \"driver\" quality.\r\n\r\nAfter a Test Drive check for oil leaks beneath car or in Engine Compartment. Pix look good and oil free Engine but 356s do not typically leak when sitting but rather they do sometimes evince dynamic leaks from various sources. Various seal replacements (Oil Sump, Fuel Pump, Oil Pump, Tach Drive, Swing Axle Boots) might be needed, but again are all owner doable.\r\n\r\nCheck the Fuel Petcock for leakage (dark brown stains = long term, whereas wet indicates near-term). Replacement is not hard or too expensive but re-building is maybe 50/50 successful on this relatively fragile aluminum feature. \r\n\r\nAside: The Fuel Petcock is very useful as the fourth indicator that it is time to re-fuel (Gas Gauge, Odometer, Trip Meter, Petcock) so do not disparage this convenient driver's aid and in sequence you should use it frequently to make sure it does not either have or develop a leak.\r\n\r\nOn PPI check Front End Link Pins and Pinch Bolts by pulling & pushing front wheels in and out with your hands on top & bottom. If there is any movement then loosen both top & bottom sets of LP & PB on each side and regrease the Link Pins. Then retighten everything and test again. If still any sloppiness you will need to repack the Timkin Bearings L/R. (These checks and fixes are also simple.)\r\n\r\nCheck all 5 tire Production Dates (last four numbers of the DOT stamping). More than 10 years will usher in sidewall cracking no matter the remaining tread.\r\n\r\nTo my recollection Arvada, CO is near Parker, CO so effecting a PPI should not be too tough. Contact the rockymountain356.club to ask for PPI assistance and share with them my thoughts. Had I opted for the easier and much cheaper \"done\" 64C I would have short-changed myself.\n\nThis '62 356B could prove to be the same catalyst to start a great hobby and yet yield an excellent driver and show winner like mine.\n\nFrankly there are a number of other and easier items to be fixed on this car that can be done by a new owner and a fist full of hand tools than the taking apart of the doors to take the frames to the re-chromer. I would investigate the accommodation around the \"tried & true\" Mechanical Fuel Pump with an assumed Electric Fuel Pump, ala at least one of the toggle switches mounted in the dash lip beneath the Ignition Switch. (In my opinion and after much research, for reasons I have noted, the 356B-60 was my choice, but only after doing all the research on \"best of breed\" and not purely focusing on expense of purchase or potential costs of restoration.)\n\n2. If you are looking for \"cheap\" you are in the wrong car lot, but 356s can and should be owner maintained, and as \"hand built\" cars they can as well be \"hand serviced\" with but a fist full of tools.\n\n3. As to ROI ... a 356 is a piece of useful rolling art. Mine was my \"daily driver\" for 28 years before retiring (aging out of work) and then restoring it. It was a marvelous and fully dependable car. You can not buy a bottom fuel tank any longer. I restored mine. You can purchase a new top top tank but the fuel sender is not compatible with the original fuel guage.
