Halogen bulbs use a filament, and the housing is meant to take that light output (bright in the center, less bright on the ends) and focus it down the road, not into peoples' eyes.\r\n\r\nHID and LED bulbs belong in projector housings that are designed for the respective bulb type. To use either in a housing not designed for it means excessive glare for oncoming traffic and likely excessive foreground light, reducing the actual effective distance of the headlamps themselves. People are terrible judges of actual light effectiveness and quite often assume more foreground light means better light effectiveness- hence why so many people drive with their fog lights on.\r\n\r\nThe hot ticket DOT-legal LED headlamps are expensive ($1,245 for J.W. Speaker) and weird-looking, but worth it for their effectiveness at night.
