Nothing matched. Engine from one car,tranny from another into 3rd body. That is what we did back in the day to buy a running 356 for 3K in 1980. Drove it 7 years April to November. Took it to drivers Ed yearly and beat on it on the track with PCA. In 7 years my only significant problem was a plugged jet that I had to clean. Heron Grey/blue is beautiful. Finally sold it to a German engineer who took it back to Germany so I could buy a 65SC I found. They drove the same,the SC was faster though but for daily driving they were both equal. Both drove 75 on the highway without a problem. Both stopped great. The cooling fan and any other accessory. This would give the true running power. After 1972 SAE no longer rated gross with no accessories at all and went to the proper NET HP like DIN. So the S in this case was rated at a whopping 75hp. Now more importantly! What really matters is what a car produces to the wheels. What power it puts down to the ground is ultimately what your going to feel. If you hit 50WHP that would be pretty good on these S motors. You can make much more if you build one up. A properly built motor with will run 15k+ minimum. You will need to go with 912/SC crank which is the same and build it from there. You could hit 100+whp if done right.
