The Lancia is here in CO. Who did the recent work? The gearbox was rebuilt in CT. It may be the shop is knowledgeable of Lancia's. And it needs some electrical work inside. Could some of that been done here? The interior looks really good. The only rust underneath seems to be surface only. Not sure if that's a small hole, or some sort of attachment point down there. This Delta needs TLC. Now the other question is was it imported correctly. There is a mass of paperwork. I just didn't see anything stating that. The good news is it is 28 years old. So, it shouldn't be an issue. And there can't be too many over here yet. What you have here is one of the top hot hatches made. That's worth something. A $1500 clutch job, and 300km later it all has to be redone for another $1500.\nAnother $1500 to fix an oil leak - yikes.\nI feel for the owner here, lots has been spent, but still needs a lot of tidying.\n\nTo answer the speedo question, the speedo face has to be changed to MPH to pass UK roadworthiness tests, but the odometer is still km. Even the officially imported new integrales in the UK had km odometers.\n\n14 years in the UK has taken a toll in terms of corrosion. On the other hand a 5year old UK model would be starting to go - ask me how I know - so this has done better than average. Some serious remedial work is needed soon though.\n\nOne bit of obscure UK knowledge I'll share here, the impressive display of tax discs (those round things with dates on them) in one photo is unfortunately perhaps a clue that the UK owners were not necessarily of means to maintain this car as it needs to be. At the time you bought tax discs in 1 year increments, or 6 months - but the 6 month ones cost 10% more, i.e 60% of the cost of a full year. So if you kept the car on the road the whole time, you had to have a serious cash flow issue not to pay the 1 year up front and make a decent saving overall. This car seems to have been daily driven all those UK years (you can store off road while maintaining the registration for free) but in 6 month increments. Not great news on a car that needs 700GBP cambelt changes every two years, plus an annual 500GBP fettling ideally at an expert. The oil pressure sending unit loosened up on me during a drive and puked oil all over the place, I caught it in time and being the vintage car guy that I am I had tools ready and tightened it up before it could get any worse during a roadside fix. Filled with oil that I always keep in the car and safely got her home. Properly mended and carried on. Im readily available for any other questions, thank you for everyone's time. If it doesn't build full boost but the Turbo was redone not too long ago, it will likely be an actuator issue or a dead Pierburg.\n\nAnyway, if you can DIY this is a good starting point, or if you know a good specialist keep a bit of money on the side and get it fixed. Ready for years of mad grins behind the wheel!\n\nI propose to use Motul 300V oil (expensive but it'll protect everything and come out clean even after more than spirited driving, plus it does wonders for engines that stand still for longer periods as it keeps everything lubricated) and 98 octane fuel if you can find it overthere. Repair or replace the motor (good second hand will do), resolder the resistor if possible, replace if not. These are available new. Replacing the heater motor is a major PITA, unless you apply the tiniest bit of smart hacksawing action. That allows you to open up the heater box without removing anything else (as in \"half the car\" by design) and is almost invisible once put together. I know cars that have been modified like this and still I really have to go hunting to find a trace of the hacksaw. I'd strongly suggest anyone who has to work on the heater to go this route. I have found the limits and there is media to prove it. With a bit of gravel on tarmac, you can go in hot and come out like this without ever touching the handbrake: \n\nhttps://preview.ibb.co/kybvba/18451332_1361330957276698_9192147622762903707_o.jpg\n\nAs you've found out, the limit lies incredibly high so you'll never encounter this unless you really give it all you've got. I now run Bridgestone RE-002 which make good warning sounds. 2.35 bar front, 2 bar rear. (8V with 16V wheels). Very important. Otherwise it'll plough. I can make the tires scream with joy all through the braking (no ABS on an 8V!), turning, and accelerating out of the turn. If it oversteers, it tends to do so at the end of the turn, almost after the turn. And it takes very quick but small corrections to get it back where you want it. On really slippery surfaces it can oversteer longer distances. Take a turn on loose gravel and you'll start with understeer and go into oversteer as the turbo kicks in and the diffs do their thing. \n\nA good way to get an 8V sideways is to lock the non-ABS brakes and skid it, but that's only if you really know what you're doing or are really panicky. I'm not proficient enough to do it in extremes, but I do save a bit of braking till the end of the brake phase to plant the front right before the turn-in. Really helps to further avoid understeer. Never, ever use the handbrake on an integrale or you'll kill the visco.\n\nI can attest that these cars drive just as well through loose fields as over asphalt. If the fan works, all that is fine. If the fan doesn't work, try setting it to 3 or 2 first when coming from standstill; the slightest bit of friction can make position 1 from 0 too much to ask. Go to 2 or 3 first, then back to 1 to kickstart it. If none of this makes the fan rotate, the motor and/or resistor are toast. Don't replace the resistor before making sure the motor is OK or you'll fry it again. Motor can be tested by putting it directly on 12V, which is the same as position 3. And of course by rotating it manually and feeling if there is any friction other than the pole pairs.\n\nAnyway, on this car it's not the fan so it's something else. The heat is coming from a heater core radiator so first question to ask is whether this one is getting hot water properly, ie the heater water valve (blue/red setting on the dash). The rest of the system are air duct valves. All valves are controlled by sometimes quite elaborate lever systems. But it's quite simple to faultfind the entire system: if the fan rotates (you can hear it with the engine off) it's not the fan. If then you don't feel air, it's the air ducting/valves. If you feel cold air, it's the water valve.\n\nAnd as said before, if you have to work inside the heater box, a little hacksaw mod makes life a lot easier. the resistor and filter can be removed with the rest of the box closed.\n\nNow then bidders, what are you afraid of? Even those south of Rome are reliable. Contrary to what you might think, a lot of the stuff is dirt cheap. Water pump is less than 100. Some items are more expensive, but most of it is OK. Only very few specific trim pieces are NLA new, but there is a second hand market as well. As for sensors and other more mundane stuff: once you know the exact specs, there's always a cheap supplier to be found. The radiator fan temperature switch should not cost you over 5 as it's not a Lancia specific item. These items will be way overpriced from the specialists, with of course the luxury of not having to hunt specs yourself.\n\nOverall very easy to get parts and a car on which you can do most jobs yourself. On this car most electrical issues will be bad earths, so if you can use sanding paper you're king. The turbo gauge is either replacing 1 hose or 1 gauge, also Meccano level task. Plenty service manuals are available online for free. If the turbo doesn't build enough boost, it's advanced Meccano to set the actuator but still nothing more than a bolt off - bolt on job. As for the heating: if it blows cold but not hot, I'd check the lever system going to the valve first. Quite a few elbows in that one and if I'm not mistaken it's all plastic. Bitty welding and painting to tart her up and you're good to go. I've been there, done that, got a super reliable rally car for the effort.
