On the outside '58 and '59 look identical but VW made many changes in '59 that it takes an \"expert\" to see. Like fer instance in '58 there were two ribs on the panel behind the spare and in '59 there were 3, so important for a correct restoration. God forbid someone should put a '58 front clip on a '59! In 1960 VW put vent holes in the front firewall to resolve the severe rusting issue they had at the front end of the heater channels. In the build pics for this car we see the vents on the panel meaning it is for a later car.
