My guess is that CSL has more of a 1:40 in it. My college buddy was big into road racing, he got tickets and pit passes to the race. At 19, this was a huge deal to wonder around the Daytona pits, with these BMW's 3.0 CSL's driven by Hans Stuck, Chevrolet Monza's modified by DeKon engineering/GM for IMSA racing and driven by the likes of Al Holbert and Al Unser. Up close and personal in the pit rows, with the cars, drivers, and pit crews was an experience. Around lunchtime, the BMW teams broke for lunch and I remember the liverwurst sandwiches and coffee being brought out. Great memories, thanks for jogging the pictures stored in my head. Running the ex-Motorsport E9 CSL for Henry Schmitt there, over about a decade, I saw a 1:32(!!), and 1:38s and about 1:35 as the most common time. \r\n\r\nLaguna in the morning in August can be 2-3 seconds different than a late afternoon session. Between air temp/track surface temp, wind and sand, and rubber and/or oil put down by earlier run groups, I learned not to get stressed about a particular number, rather where the car and driver were, relative to other \"knowns\"(Kenny's Monza, Bruce's 934/5, as our car was typically 3 seconds+/- off of their times). That magic \"32\" came during an atypically hot weekend in May, when our HMSA historic group had been included as a support race for an IMSA event in May, '09 IIRC. Bruce and Kenny were running 1:29(!!!), so everyone was faster.....maybe all the extra rubber from the \"big boys\"(Prototypes, pro GT cars etc.)? Maybe the heat(very high 80's/low '90s). The fact that the origional engine come with the sale goes to show if the buyer decides to get it close to the way it was when it came out of the factory is a antidote for those that worry about originality. But I am yet to find a true racing car that is being used today for racing that doesn\u2019t use the benefits to newer technology as there are so many variant of racing based on qualification for entry to a race.\r\nI also agree with you that to build a car like this one might spend well over twice as much highest bid.
