What you probably mean is CARB compliance. Even though you may be smog exempt, you will still need to be CARB compliant unless your diesel is older than 1979, I believe. After you show you\u2019re compliant, no smog checks, but you have to do it once to register. Here\u2019s the answer I gave on another auction:\n\n\u201cI can answer the question about registering in California as I went through it on mine. There\u2019s only one shop certified to legalize non-US Gs for California, and they charge about $10k for those that have stock engines. Their estimate is 8-12 weeks.\n\nThe money you pay gets you a certificate of conformance from the only California Air Resource Board certified laboratory. It states that your G meets the emission standards for cars of the same year. This certificate is what makes a car like this California legal and is the only way to register this G in the state.\u201d\n\nIt took a lot of back and forth with the Technical Compliance department at the CA DMV, but I was able to get my plates after 2 months, and title after 3. I sourced the car from Germany where it was on display as a show car at a dealership. I flew someone to Germany to look at it for me etc. I bought it as it looks now.\r\n\r\nBefore shipping to the US I sent it to Poland and had it serviced etc. It then came here.\r\n\r\nThis is a factory cabriolet. Top has been replaced and cosmetic (bolt on) mods done\r\n\r\nInline 6 runs amazing, and it\u2019s mated to a smooth 5 speed manual which I personally feel makes it the best combination offered in this era of G.\r\n\r\nFactory AC blows cold\r\n\r\nI had both front seats redone here in the US using solid leather on the outside panels and perforated in the center. Had the wood trim redone in black.\r\n\r\nThis is a fantastic looking and driving example\r\n\r\nI welcome in person visits and pre purchase inspections on site or at Wolfgang\u2019s (G wagon specialist). \r\n\r\nIt drives great locally and on highways. No issue attaining (and sustaining!) highway speed. \r\n\r\nAny questions please let me know I\u2019m happy to assist. \r\n\r\nSome will ask why I\u2019m selling. Very common to see them in G wagons in Europe. It's essentially an auxiliary heater, it works independently of the vehicles heater. I have never used it. \r\n\r\nI will ensure all switches are in the proper place. I think when they reinstalled the center console the switches were just not latched properly. I will ensure this is rectified, no problem at all.
