They put $2500 into it and sold it to me for $2750! It sat under a cover in my driveway for about 8 months and I only drove it roughly 3-400 miles. As a stupid young 20-something, I got the bright idea to list it for sale for $8995 and try to \"make a big score\" (not realizing at the time what I actually had... a 63k, stock, immaculate 528E with all original paperwork including the window sticker that was laminated for safe keeping). I changed my mind and pulled the ad after roughly 2 dozen \"I'll give you $1500\" phone calls in the first 5 days. About 3-4 weeks later I get a call from an older gentleman who saw the ad in a back dated version of the local newspaper while he was getting his hair cut. He explained he used to have one and got rid of it after his wife passed away...stated he regretted it ever since and wanted one back...but only had $6400 to spend. Sentiment got to me and I sold it...turns out it was the same guy I sold it to originally!! I was the 2nd and 4th owner of the car... he was the 3rd and 5th!! This was back in 2004-or so... Fast forward to 2011-2012... wife and I get divorced, house gets sold. So is life.\r\n\r\nNow, it's 2015... I meet the love of my life and things really started picking up for me personally and professionally. Cal. that was RUST FREE (mechanical condition was not important), he would send me clean Porsche 930's, Mercedes 6.9's and BMW 745's.\nThe demand was huge, as we were still suffering from the smog/low horsepower malaise and those models were not imported by the manufacturers. Tough era for us gear-heads!\nI had a great time finding new homes for all of those Luxo-Bruisers (that's right with a B) but those 745 were special. \nMost of the one I got had the Buffalo hides (that leather did not like the California sun \ud83d\ude0e) but my favorite was a dark forest green with olive velour upholstery . The previous owner (or passenger) had worn a lot of Chanel #5 and the interior smelled divine. I had a hard time letting go of that one.\nThe factory may have rated them at 245hp but it felt like much more (so did the 92-94 500E).\nIt was not fast off the line (quick but not fast) but as @StorkTransport mentioned, when that turbo kicked in, watch out! The back-end would squat down, very much like a 930, and before you knew it you were in the triple digits.\nNotes:\n* The auto is a perfect match for the motor and the intent of the car.\n* Some of them came WITHOUT the factory A/C, so working or not, this car is a find.\n* The gas mileage, especially with your foot in it, is AWFUL! I remember single digits. \ud83d\ude33\n* The 7-series of that era especially with euro bumpers are much smaller than they appear.\nI drove one in Paris for a month with no problem. Modern ECUs also work with them to have a modern fuel management system that can be Dyno tuned. This engine, head and exhaust manifold are heavy duty and extracting 400+HP/lb is not a stretch. For a period correct look all of the 70s intake parts work great with this engine in a 70s car. At some point these gray market cars deserve more Love and attention and the finer models should increase in value. New title work already done, car is in shop about to begin it's rehab to drivable / usable condition. This car is in really good condition, as appears in the photos. It evidently had been sitting however, so I'm making it safe and comfortable and road worthy so I can enjoy it. A set of genuine Alpina wheels, 16\", are mounted with new tires and waiting for this ride to return from the shop.
