I immigrated to the US from Germany in the early 90's and growing up in Germany, a Jeep CJ for me was the ultimate American dream car. I bought this Jeep in Hughson, CA on June 1st 1995. It was painted red at the time and had 103k miles on it. I still have the original classified ad in the Modesto Bee! In 1997 I had the car restored. The body was taken off the frame and taken down to bare metal. The Jeep had zero rust but a number of little drill holes people put into the body to attach tops and stuff. All of those little holes were metal filled, no bondo on this Jeep. We only replaced the windshield frame, and the dashboard. The dash had a horrible cut out. The engine was re-done to original specs and runs like a clock.\r\nI build this Jeep as my American dream car. It got the Superlift kit and I wanted the tires to be massive. In retrospect, I would choose 33's for the car today. The 35's are now 24 years old and look new but should really be replaced.\r\nAnyways, those were the times and I loved the Jeep and it was of course way too nice to ever take off roading. My family and I went back to Germany in 1999 and took the Jeep with us (all paperwork present). In Germany I did not even register the car, it went into dry storage still on my California title. We relocated back to the US in 2008 and we brought the Jeep back to the US in 2014 (all paperwork present). The car needed some top end work due to the long inactivity which was done here locally in Grass Valley. It also received all new fuel lines and a new tank. All receipts here.\r\nThis CJ is almost like a family member for us and it is not easy to let go. But the time has come. If it is a really steep incline you may have to shift down, but we live here in the Foothills of the Sierras and it is really not a problem I encounter. But as stated before, my preference for new tires would be 33s.
