I didn't hesitate when I saw the pictures, it's even better in real life. The guy I traded with had accrued a few hundred miles since the restoration. He'd had trouble hot starting the bike and in general found it to be a bit of a pain. These old /2s aren't for everyone. \r\n\r\nI'd only seen pictures, on arrival I was equally impressed. But boy oh boy, it was a pig to start. A quick flick through the paperwork and I saw the local bmw dealership had messed with it. \r\n\r\nI'm not a /2 guy per se but I know my way around. I quickly discovered resistor caps, not so hot plugs, on deeper inspection I found a lovely new coil pack and the magneto was ever so slightly out of adjustment. So starting from the top, set the valves, set the magneto, set the points. New plugs, new plug wires, new plug caps. The carbs retained all the standard jets for an r69s but they were just way out of adjustment. I replaced the throttle cables and the throttle tube itself. Lastly adjusting the front drum brake. \r\n\r\nI'm pleased to report it starts and stops and goes like a scolded cat. Hot starts are no longer a problem. \r\n\r\n@originalbob I'm merely a temporary custodian of this fine machine. I don't know the history of it and I didn't do the restoration. I was previously unaware but have since read about the special order program in 1969 that means this bike could have been ordered from the factory in this color but I don't have any documented proof. Caribe blue (059) was a non-metalllic blue-green used on BMW cars in the late '60s into the early '70s. Every blue /2 I've seen was metallic, including one I bought from the original owner who bought his brand-new right off the showroom floor in North Carolina. Arctic Blue Metallic (045) was a BMW car color I first recall seeing in 1974. Nachtblau metallic (040) was used on cars starting around 1969. Norman alternately told me about Kent Holt matching Caribe for him but couldn't get the proper metallic. (Remember Caribe is not a metallic paint.) He alternately told me Kent had to substitute pearl instead of metallic to match a Nachtblau /2 he had Kent paint for him. So I remain confused and yet pretty steadfast in my assumption that BMW may have used Nachtblau on a handful of /2s. Not Caribe and likely not Arctic blue. But what color this bike got painted in, I have no idea, or even a guess as to it being a BMW color at all. Riviera is also a non-metallic blue commonly used on 2002 BMWs in the early '70s. This one is obviously repainted in some kind of blue metallic! That counts out Riviera and Caribe. I have the BMW book of color samples supplied to paint shops with the actual samples displayed with holes in the center to compare to the actual vehicle. It includes Caribe, Nachtblau, Arctic, and Rivierera. I went to the friction damper on my 67 R69S that I have owned for 45 years and the removed parts remain in a box on a shelf. I just restored a Dover white R69S with a Hoske tank and they desired to have the hydraulic damper restored to it's former glory. Vech's website has a detailed diagram showing what parts to add and which to remove to convert to friction damper. It boils down to personal preference like which flavor ice cream we prefer. I purchased the bike with the romantic idea that a vintage BMW would be the bike for me. I traded the bike to Robert for one of his amazing custom bobber builds. \r\nThe R69S is absolutely stunning. Nothing was spared in the restoration of this bike. Kickstart Restorations did an absolutely fabulous job. The bike had a couple of minor tuning errors thanks to my local BMW dealer and Robert put all of these right. Bid with confidence. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer one. BTW, as shown in the photos, the bike comes with the original headstock plate. I had a reproduction plate made when I purchased it. I\u2019ve come across many anomalies.I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the factory workers did whatever they wanted to do on a particular day, dealers did whatever they wanted to do prior to a sale, and owners did whatever they wanted to do after sale. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any hard and fast rules when it comes to these old bikes.
