Any 1959 Dodge is a rare sight today. \n\nIn competition largely with Pontiac, Mercury and Oldsmobile Dodge didn't sell in quite the numbers as did Plymouth which did battle with Chevrolet and Ford for space in Americas driveway. And as the 3rd largest producer of automobiles in America it didn't build as many as the two bigger guys. \n\nThe 1957-59 Chrysler cars were redesigned by Virgil Exner to be lower, longer, wider and dramatically modern. This styling revolution caused the other guys to quickly redesign its big car lines for GM (1959) and Ford (1960). \n\nGiven the comparatively small number produced and their poor resale value at the time more 1957-59 Chrysler products ended up in the junk yard than not. \n\nToday its the reverse. I was a custodian of a close friends 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Super D500 convertible that sold about 5 years ago for $200,000. That is more than Chrysler 300 F or G bring and the Dodge is far short of the substance of the Chryslers.
