This car most definitely still has a non-torque converter hydramatic. Even if you don't get a good look at the transmission, the shift quadrant on the dash shows it. Hydramatics had a P-N-D-S-L-R pattern, while the Turbo hydramatic 400 (and the 350 later as well) had P-R-N-D-S-L. Actually the 64 Pontiac Division's Star Chief and Bonneville models were the last GM cars to use the \"Controlled-Coupling Hydramatic\" (Model HM315), while Cadillac already moved in 64 to the TH 400. There was the Hydramatic 375 (slim Jim) and the Hydramatic 315. Both of them were non-torque converter three speeds but the 375 was a 3 speed/four range. The 315 had the large fluid coupling in the bell housing and the 375 did away with that and only had a spring cushioned flex plate in the bell housing with a small internal fluid coupling.
